About Me

Nikola Materne, a singer of French extraction and Georg Türk, a native Transylvanian, never succeeded in learning a proper profession, but devoted their lives entirely to music and played in night clubs, bars and studios until eventually they met each other a few years ago. As soon as they discovered their shared musical preferences and their love for chilling out and cooking, they teamed up to make their own music and live the Dolce Vita.
For her second studio album “Closer”, Sphere invited a lot of musicians, who are mostly close friends, to their studio for recording sessions; thus making the Sphere-Vibe more feelable; to dive more into this special aura. Thus the new songs sound even more natural and intimate than on the previous album “Breathe” (BF 39850872). Always pulling along the sound for their love for film music. A bitter-sweet French touch, cheerful melancholic pop-songs, telling short personal stories. About the fear of too much closeness in "Sunbather", the nightly trip to foreign dream worlds in "Dreamer" or the loneliness in a foreign city. About the cliffs of human relations in "Hard to Handle" and "Bad". A peculiar declaration of love to "Eliah" and spring time in the song "Spring".
The name Sphere is perfectly suited for their style and sound, which they themselves describe as spherical pop sound with lounge elements. Or Jazzpop. A categorization is difficult, if the album starts with jazz developing into pop, and in between takes short trips in various other genres, such as Nu-Bossa and Chanson. More important than putting down genres is feeling the vibe: Sphere create an atmospheric soundtrack to life with a sound, "that always lets you float a few centimetres above the ground" (Brigitte 3 / 2007 – German Magazine).
