David is a member of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (RSO) and Opera Roanoke and has also performed as principal cellist of the Lynchburg Symphony with Opera on the James. An avid teacher, David instructs a studio of young cellists in Roanoke, VA and the surrounding areas and is also an assistant teacher for the Virginia Tech String Project, aiming to bring string education and culture to musically under-serviced communities in southwest Virginia. He serves as the string instructor at Faith Christian School in Roanoke and he has served on the faculty of the Roanoke Youth Symphony Summer Institute at Ferrum College.
Photo by Laura TaylorDavid has studied at the Bowdoin International Music Festival with Steve Doane and Peter Howard, at the Quartet Program with cellists Nathaniel Rosen, Terry King, Peter Rejto, Jeffery Solow and David Ying, on a chamber music fellowship at the Wintergreen Performing Arts Academy with Zuill Bailey, and at the Ithaca Violoncello Institute with Einar Holm. He holds a degree in cello performance from Roanoke College in Salem, VA under Kandinsky Trio cellist, Alan Weinstein.

David won the 2008 VMTA concerto competition in Newport News, VA and is scheduled to perform Elgar's cello concerto in E minor op. 85 with the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra in October, 2008 and with Virginia Tech's New River Valley Symphony in February, 2009. With the Virginia Tech based Apollo Piano Quintet, David won the 2005 Virginia MTNA Chamber Music Competition, and placed 3rd in the Southern Division Competition.

With the Chapel-Hill based indie-pop trio, The Never, David has travelled throughout the east coast and midwest, sharing the stage with many artists including Manchester Orchestra, Annuals and Everclear. He has also collaborated with artists like Shapiro, Tara Leigh Cobble, The Roanoke College Children's Choir, Chapel Hill label Trekky Records, Virginia Tech Theater (The Other Shore, soundtrack, 2007, Abingdon Square, soundtrack, 2008) Wynonna Judd and Art Garfunkel (w/ RSO.) Two of David's solo Bach performances have been featured on WDBJ Channel 7 Morning News and he has performed live at Radio stations WUSC 90.5-Columbia, SC and WKNC 88.1-Raleigh, NC.
David has performed in 15 states at venues including Roanoke and Salem Civic Centers, The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in Louisville, Shaftman Hall at the Jefferson Center, the Evans Center at Wintergreen, Rosch and Diers Halls at S.U.N.Y. Fredonia, Bowery Ballroom (New York), Subterranean (Chicago), Varsity Theater (Minneapolis), Bucknell Hall (Lewisburg, PA), Raleigh Music Hall, The Flying Anvil (Greensboro), the Cat's Cradle (Chapel Hill), on the Roanoke College Performing Arts Series and the Downtown Live 2007 in Raleigh, NC.
