I am a membranophonist. A membranophone is instrument that creates sound by striking a stretched membrane with some type of object - sexy, huh?
Drums first appeared as far back as 6000 B.C. Mesopotamia. Drumming is as old as mankind and has been a medium of communication and expression in every important aspect of daily life. Drums were used like a cell phone between distant villages to signal changes in weather or to declare war. They were used to celebrate life and to mourn death. Even in modern day, everyone still wants a beat. Your heart beats in a rhythm that insures your very existence. To be a drummer is most honorable. I do not take this responsibility lightly.
