FIFTHPERIOD:BIOCamden, New Jersey. A city across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, that’s infamous for a history of corrupt politicians, drug-dealing and murders. Named the nation's most dangerous city for the second year in a row, Camden is also one of the nation’s poorest.Never forgetting their impoverished beginnings, Camden natives P-Dot and Fifth are down to make Camden notorious for a greater cause – Hip Hop.Out of one of the nation’s most depressingly destitute cities in the nation, Camden, NJ has produced two Diamondz in the Ruff – FIFTH PERIOD.FIFTHPERIOD the super Hip-Hop Duo is comprised of producer extrodinair PERIOD DOT and hood spokesman FIFTH"THE MAYOR".Who's talent's have worked side by side with each other since 96 while being in a Tri-State hip-hop group.Since establishing HEAVYEQUIPMENT INC this duo along with "THE HE-MEN'S "heavy hitter BONES DOLLAR have been ringing bells notoriously. Some of DOT'S early work came out of Wildstyle Recording Studio where he was owner and Chief Engineer. This establishment was located on one of Philadelphia's busiest strips ,Delaware ave. This is where his beatmaking magic and engineering skills was perfected.Producing and recording records for such successfull Philly native's such as Ramsquad,Freeway,Peedi Peedi, and R&B Sensation Vivian Green.Period Dot also produced records for Anthony Hamilton,Cee-lo,Bonecrusher,and Sho'nuff recording artist Torica.Period Dot's abilites don't just stop with hip-hop and R&B his talents enabled him to compose jingles and commercials for Corporations such as Campbell Soup and A-1 Advertising. With such talent destined for greatness. It's not shocking that ROC-A-FELLA offered him a production deal while being one of hip-hop's most talked about record labels.Needless to say Dot turned down the deal to start HEAVYEQUIPMENT INC along with Fifth"THE MAYOR" self proclaimed hood spokesman.Fifth brings forth an intriguing energy that seems to win people over time after time.Fifth has worked with a few artists, such as Bad Boy recording artist E-Ness,Ruff Ryder's Next Generation Flashy and collabarations
with fellow "HE-MEN" Bones Dollar. With Fifth The Mayor's potential to be a great M.C it's no reason why this Camden breed duo won't be making noise for year's to come.INTERVIEW WITH FIFTHPERIOD:Not too many people are familiar with Camden. When they hear about Jersey it’s always about Newark. Tell the People about where you from.FIFTH: Simply put Camden is THIRSTY, GRIMEY, GRUNGY, AND HUNGRY! Sometimes it seemed like the worst place in the world to live. Real hard living…poverty stricken, drug infested. Down here it’s that crabs in a barrel mentality. No matter who you are, don’t come down here flossin with big chains, none of that shit. You won’t leave with it. Hopefully, we can bring some light to this shit. Maybe we could do for Camden what Paul Wall and them did for Houston. You were both solo artists, what made you guys come together?FIFTH: Well we are brothers first and foremost. We were also in a group. We opened up for many artists down here in South Jersey and in Philly...Roots, Brand Nubians, Doug E. Fresh, Kool G Rap and Flip Mode. But as a group, you know egos and other things play a part in everything so we got our resources and money together to start this movement, Heavy Equipment Inc.Where did you get the name 'Fifth Period’?FIFTH: Well my name is Fifth the Mayor and he’s Period Dot. That shit goes together like remember when you was in school? Fifth period was always lunchtime. Lunchtime was when you could battle niggas, and just have fun. Lunchtime is what everyone looked forward to in school, and everyone is looking forward to Fifth Period.Who inspires yall to do what you do?P-DOT: Gangstarr - we fans because like us they wasn’t from New York and they made it. Guru is from Boston. Premo is from Texas and he’s one of the best producers that ever did it. They been in the game like 15 plus years and they are still relevant and that’s what we trying to do.
Are there any artists or producers you want to work with that you haven’t?FIFTH: Premier. We would love to rock with Premo.P-DOT: I got love for E-Ness and Ghostface [but] the rap game is in ruins. There’s nobody left. Aint really no emcees keeping it real, ya know? It’s a lot of corny half-ass niggas out there. Nobody is creative and they all sound the same. It’s so boring. Like remember when Yo MTV Raps was on? If you had to pee, you’d hold it cause you aint wanna miss nothing. Now you just get up in the middle of niggas interviews now.Nobody is really reppin Jersey, Let alone South Jersey. What are you bringing different to the game?P-DOT: We making real music, none of that pop shit, feel me? When you out there grinding trying to get that gwaup, you don’t wanna hear or see no muthafucka dancing and shit. You want that real shit that relates to how you getting it. We like women, parties, getting money and all that, but that’s not where it stops for us. We bring a lot of creativity, originality and lyrical ability. Plus we got the Ruff Ryders backing us.
What’s your affiliation with Ruff Ryders?FIFTH: Initially, Big Tone took us to meet Dee and Waah. They knew of us for years so after working with Flashy, the relationship just grew and now we just rockin with them. Our release Lunch Time is on Heavy Equipment/Ruff Ryders. What advice would you give to other aspiring artists?P-DOT: For all those guys in the basement grindin, looking at these frontin ass niggas on TV, keep grindin and believing cause you goin make it. Stay focused and don’t underestimate yourselves. When people tell you it’s hard work, it is, but NEVER give up.P.S:Look out for FIFTHPERIOD'S debut album LUNCHTIMEFor more info about FIFTHPERIOD check WWW.HEAVYEQUIPMENTINC.COM THE "HE-MEN" OF THIS RAP SH$%!
