About Me

Deborah Ritchie is a singer from Llangollen, North Wales who began singing in the early 90s. After a brief spell of closing her eyes while performing she realised it was quite good fun and formed Ruby's Promise with Barrie Roberts (now with Nightwing), session guitarist Charlie Lloyd and John Brother. Much gigging, writing and drinking of beer and changing of line up occurred until a recording in 2004, under the unpressed title of Static State with Barrie, Deborah and new band members Andy and Steve Williams. She met Birmingham's stunning thrash band, Damn Dirty Apes vocalist Matt Ritchie and they're now sprogged and spliced. Both have taken a break from bands and are writing solo material until they can relocated to Matt's hometown of Birmingham. The break from the band has prompted Deborah to delve further into her passion for traditional and contemporary folk music, and gives her the chance to be true to her own musical tastes. She is now looking for musicans to work with in Birmingham.

These songs are credited in the lyrics section. Recorded when Deborah was in Ruby's Promise, who now have a different line up and set list.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Take one Deborah and add and anyone with a windbox, strings, tapping foot, clapping hand, reed or beer glass philosophy.
Currently dragging the piano accordian and anglo concertina out of the mothball to torture the dog with. Any suitably talented musicians are welcome to come and rescue said pup.
Influences: Having grown up in Llangollen with its famous international music festival Deborah's influences are based in her general love of folk culture. Learning welsh folk songs and dances as a child and watching international folk performers all her life. However a real turning point, away from rock and pop and more towards folk came through seeing a combination of great british folk act Waterson:Carthy, including the gutsy and fantastically talented Eliza Carthy, the sweet and lovely Kate Rusby and the spikey John McCusker. Full House, Rusty (Mahone), accordianist extraordinnaire amongst many others. The list is as endless as the talent that is out there.Musicians that have influenced me include:
