Influences: 60’s-70’s pop, warped free jazz, easy listening, taped conversations, instructional records, microtonal synthesis, music of the non - western world, fluttered Califone turntable playbacks, disturbing melodies, quiet passages, soundtracks, broken tape squeals and straight ahead rock compressed into little 4 minute mp3s.
Sounds Like: MUSIC WITH A MESSAGE (2006)------------------------------------------------------
----
The sixties were a fabulous time in music history that saw pop music develop, diversify, and become a fixture on the AM dial. There was a time when folk music was heard all across America, from horrible car stereos to broken ass turntables found at the the Salv. What happened to wholesome love songs? Action Bible Songs, Sunday School Songs, and the lush world of romantic music made by the likes of Mancini and 101 Strings? Well now blanketship has proudly strangled and juiced these sounds into powerful songs that help fill your heart, ease your mind, and renew your spirit! These power anthems are now available on one supreme collection... "blanketship... step into the sunshine with the dollson family singers." Over 50 minutes of hits by the dollson family singers spanning an incredible 2 year career. Includes a live version of Musky Fingers and a hip remix of St Peter's Hymn. Dont miss this brand new CD by blanketship out on g25productions this summer. yeah! ____________________________________________________________
SUMMERSET (2005) ------------ ----------------------------------------- ---------------------------
is a wild and unexpected ride. The music can only be described as structured experimental sampled sound collage, but abstract pop isn't too far off either. Touches of 70's psych rock, musique concrete, wild jazz drums, big ass brass, Indonesian rhythm sections, microtonal synthesis, acoustic folk guitars and easy listening make up only a few colors of SummerSet's palate of colors. SummerSet marks the debut LP of Gigante Sound, a new record label specializing in the dark creative corners of experimental sound. The record was produced by Jared Blüm aka Blanketship.____________________________________
TEEN SOUNDS --------------------- - - --------------------------------
With this record, I’ve chosen to explore the darker side of vinyl and tape manipulation but in a structured yet abstract/ pop sort of way. I aimed to keep the infectious melodies, grooves and playfulness of my past records, but I also sought to subject you to some more of my challenging sonic adventures that would most likely be heard on my other projects; Vulcanus 68, Blüm or even a past Blanketship release Threeps.
This time, I imagined a world where children un-prohibited by the rules of songwriting could explore the sounds of the records laying around their homes or bedrooms and make new songs of their own. This includes scratching, skipping and hand spinning classic rock, easy listening, jazz, classical and of course nursery songs on their plastic record machines. Or perhaps singing casually into their play tape recorders. Anything and everything is possible; a musical world without rules. These pieces are all over the map and would be categorized as a somewhat challenging listen, though there are moments of grace and beauty and of course a couple of funny laughs. From chunky nuggets of classic rock to not so gorgeous easy listening, blaring drum solos, obnoxious screechy horns, electronic bits of bleeps and blips, some really SLOW grooves and some fucked up children’s funk, this record has it all. Oh yeah did I mention a paid advertisement from Fairfield Glade? It’s all in here. So take a trip with me…enjoy. As Claude Debussy once wrote:
“I wish to sing of my interior visions with the naive candour of a child.â€
