Pianist/Composer Selen Gülün formed the band Just About Jazz at 1998, to perform her original music written for a jazz quintet, while she and the other members (Mike Wilkens, Tenor and Soprano Sax; Jan Larsen, Guitar; Patrick Zambonin, Bass; Jörg Mikula Drums) yet were students at Berklee College of Music. They were all coming from different origins (Austria, Norway, Chicago, Switzerland, and Turkey), and they enjoyed playing together at this international environment. This global sound was so unique that Selen decided to call it as a permanent project. Just About Jazz recorded a live album, with Sarp Maden on the guitar, during the performances of the group at AFM Kerem Görsev Jazz Bar Istanbul, at 19 to 21 December 2000. The album was released at 2005 by DMC Jazz, Turkey. Since members of the band live in different countries, and due to their busy tour programs they sometimes come together in a different group format on the international circuit. Just about Jazz Trio is one of these new formats of the original band formed by Selen Gülün, with the bassist Patrick Zambonin and the drummer Jörg Mikula. They started playing the tunes written for this formation by Selen Gülün and performed at the greatest venues of Istanbul including Babylon and Aksanat at 2006. The Trio’s impressive togetherness and distinctive sound captured the attention of the Turkish Jazz critics and producers. They recorded an album in March 2006 at ITU MIAM Studios, which will be released internationally on 2009.
