About Me
With a grown and sexy persona, this 24 year old lady out of Houston, TX is in a class all her own. When asked the question, what market do you think you fall in? Alazae responded with a quote from a famous poet, “Go where there is no path and leave a trail.†This is exactly what this unique young phenom has already proven to do in other aspects of her life.
Born in Harlingen, TX as (April Dawn Burkholder) “Zae†found herself constantly overcoming obstacles as a young female and athlete. At the ripe young age of 12, she surprised even herself by winning her first Junior Olympic National Championship in gymnastics, then followed that up by winning two more times as well as an NCAA National title and 14 All-America Awards. Many may ask the question, well where does music fall in? Alazae was born a performer with music being the main ingredient behind that. She was always making up dances and pretending to be in music videos. She will tell you herself that as just a young girl she always knew that she would be a performer and do great things, and that it was beyond the sport of gymnastics. At the age of 13, she started her career without even realizing it. “I was going through a lot from family, to severe injuries and traumas which nearly caused amputation, to rape, molestation, and abuse. I was too ashamed and afraid to tell anybody, not even my best friend, so I just started writing about it.†Well, at this point Alazae still didn’t know what was in store for her until about the age of 17 when she had her first studio experience. “As soon as I stepped in the booth, I knew that this was it.â€
After surviving a long journey of a rough education and sacrificing for her sport, Alazae was ready to take advantage of her full scholarship to Louisiana State University but not until she spent a year getting eligible academically first. As she is no stranger to hard work, “Zae†tried to juggle her music in with being a student-athlete, but was ultimately forced to put it on hold until she graduated. Now, the well-rounded, performance ready, hard working and multi-talented young woman is back on her grind in the streets of Houston determined to make big things happen! It’s a good thing that she was able to utilize those talents, because lack of money and resources would put anyone in a position to ‘do it yourself’. Alazae enforced that rule when she searched for tracks, studio time, and choreographed dances for every show as well as hunted for dedicated backround dancers.
With musical influences like Tupac, Lil Wayne, T.I., Mia X, and Eve, one can only imagine the diversity of her style. “Her delivery on the tracks really brings out this mindset of being untouchable on so many different levels and she has a rawness about her that brings a very unique blend which adds to the distinctive sound of her voice.†Says former producer Refuuj of ‘All That’ and ‘U Aint Ready’ “It’s not what you would expect from just looking at her. She really has a desire to inspire people and make them wanna get up and dance. It’s like it’s in her blood and everybody who’s had a chance to meet her will probably tell you the same thing.â€
