About Me

My claim to fame is not how good I am but how fantastically good the folks I've taught to tattoo, have become. Among them are Chris Trevino, Shawn DeGan, Dave Lum, and Troy Curry. Some of the best in the world. I learned the art from John Stuckey in the mid 70's in Houston. I opened Tattooing by Bob and Leslie in Austin in '78. We sold it to Dave Lum in '84 and hit the road for a couple of years, tattooing our way across America and Canada. We opened Perfection Tattoo in San Antonio in '86. There I taught Chris and Shawn the sacred art and later sold them the shop. Chris moved to Austin and bought the shop from Dave, renaming it Chris Trevino's Perfection Tattoo. I am now divorced and back tattooing in Austin with Chris at Perfection, happy and free. The circle is complete.

My Interests

Art and Adrenaline. Tattooing is and was my first passion. (I drew kid's initials on their arms for lunch money in second grade). I sometimes feel that I am an artist, but really I'm more of a craftsman. I love translating other folk's art into a beautiful tattoo. There's no better satisfaction than hearing someone say, "It's exactly what I wanted! I love it! Thank you!" There's no better high. Adrenaline pretty much speaks for itself. Kayaking, rafting, cliff diving, exploring, caving, hang gliding, surfing, bouldering, etc are things I once did and still do as the aging body will permit. Suggestions? Ideas?

I'd like to meet:

Jacques Cousteau, Cat Stevens, Cormac McCarthy, Pinky Yun, Greg Irons, and Filip Leu.

Music:

most

Movies:

Better than they ever were, now that nothing's impossible. Also the great equalizer. Bill Gates can't get a better movie experience than I.

Television:

nope

Books:

I devour 'em

Heroes:

My parents and grandparents. They were all good, strong, brave people. Hard examples to try and live up to.
