SMILERS

SMILERS is a supercharismatic Estonian-Finnish rockband established in 1993 in Helsinki, Finland. Their debut album "SMILERS" was released in 1994 in English and was followed by an EP "TAKE FIVE" in 1996. During that time SMILERS had up to 250 gigs a year all over Finland and they were one of the most popular club-bands in Helsinki.Their invasion to Estonia started with an album called "OLEN KUUL" in 1997, which shook the whole country with its innovative and unique approach to rockmusic."MÕISTUS ON KADUNUD", released in 1998, turned out to be even a bigger success - it was clear that these guys were serious. The song from this album named "Tantsin sinuga taevas" won the Kuldne plaat (Golden Record) award for the Best Radio Hit in 1998.In 1999 two albums were released: a collection in English called "SMILERS 1994-1996" and a new album "SUURE SURMAGA LÄBI ELU". By that time there was not a single stage left in Estonia where SMILERS hadn't put their foot on…2001 brought along the next big sensation "JALGPALL ON PAREM KUI SEKS" - 9 out of 10 songs turned out to be the hit singles! By the way, this could be a world record in that business… One of the singles from this album, "Football is better than Sex", was also released in Finland in Finnish and English.Ten years after its birth, in 2003, SMILERS came out with its 8th album "AINULT UNUSTAMISEKS". When you listen to this or see and hear them playing live, you will understand why SMILERS is the most popular band in Estonia and recognized by an audience of all ages - it's music and performance touches your heart, mind and soul, weather you want it or not…Just to give you a hint how big SMILERS really is - the single "Ainult unustamiseks" was played more than any other song, including international songs (!), in the radios all over Estonia during 1 year since the album came out. If that's not something then what is?!Another single from this album called "Käime katuseid mööda" was almost like a national anthem - it was the No. 1 single in every radio station for months, played by a number of other performers and bands throughout the country and arranged by several musicians (including jazz and classical music maestros) for different concerts.Their latest release "AINULT ARMASTUSEST" (2004) is a collection of the most beautiful and romantic songs by the band.In 2004 and 2005 SMILERS won the awards for the Best Artist of the Year, which is the greatest apreciation you can get in this country.Their new smashing hit called "Asi on maitses" is not only a beginning of the birth of their new album (which would be the 10th!!!) but also a sign that not even the sky is the limit for SMILERS . They won't rest, they won't give up and their music is immortal…SMILERS is undoubtedly one of the very few bands in Estonia that does not let people remain unmoved - they have sold more albums and have had more No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. hits in radios than any other band in the country. The grateful audience is absolutely crazy about their contcerts!
