I'd like to meet:
MTV Casting
Do you keep tabs on the pop charts even as you browse Pitchfork? Can you debate this week's "Idol" results as vociferously as you might the war in Iraq? Lastly, can you do it with a quick wit and inimitable charm? We don't want to date you. But we might want to hire you.
MTV News is in search of a new correspondent. And we're training our lens on graduating college journalists who believe they've got a flare for the camera as well as the page.
Ideal candidates should be well-versed in pop culture, social issues, and politics. Music heads move to the front of the line. Strong writing and reporting skills are a must; distinct voice and authoritative point of view… even better.
Applicants will be expected to perform an array of duties: interviewing subjects (celebrity and otherwise), filing written reports and features, blogging and vlogging about your experiences, webcasting, and finally, on-air reporting, both in the studio and in the field.
Candidates should be prepared to relocate to New York or Los Angeles.
If interested, get your Cronkite on!

(BET) Casting
Call for Public Relations Volunteers
This June 26th, Black Entertainment Television (BET) is hosting its 7th Annual BET AWARDS show at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The network will telecast this event live to its audience of more homes than any year before. The BET Awards honors the best in African-American entertainment, music and sports. Other honors include the Humanitarian Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. Look for performances by the crème-de-la-crème of Black Hollywood. Award categories include hottest R&B male/female, hottest hip hop male/female, Viewer's Choice, Best New Artist, best actor/actress, best athlete male/female, Video of the Year and many more.
Due to the large scale of this event and the star power that the show and its celebrity honorees and guests will generate, there will be a large contingent of media on hand to cover the telecast. To accommodate the media onsite, BET's corporate communications department is looking for individuals with public relations experience or students studying communications-related disciplines in the Los Angeles area to volunteer to work during the event. We'll need people to work on the following assignments:
· Red carpet attendants/spotters
· Spotters (security checkpoints, lobby, other critical areas)
· PR desk staffers
· Media check-in staffers
· Media, photo and broadcast room attendants
· Photography runners /assistants
· General runners/ PR assistants
Volunteer assignments will run from June 23rd through the night of the awards show on the 26th. While some assignments will involve celebrity contact, others will be less glamorous – but still very critical functions to the success of our PR initiatives surrounding the show. We ask that all volunteers be prepared to assist with public relations duties all four days. If you are available that entire week before the show and the days following as a PR assistant it would be greatly appreciated. Please email that availability under separate cover to Voncella McIntosh at [email protected] as we always need assistance before that show. Make sure to include the days and times you are available to work during that 2-week period between the June 18th thru June 29th.
After the show, each volunteer will receive a reference letter from BET detailing his or her participation in the awards event, an official BET Awards t-shirt and access to any official BET Awards post-events (such as BET Awards after-party, if applicable).
Please complete and submit the following application along with a current resume to [email protected] (subject line: BET Awards volunteer application) or fax (323) 843-9778. The deadline for volunteer applications is Friday, May 25th, 2006. If you have any questions you can contact Donna Wisdom, BET Corporate Communications at (310) 481-3770.
Please be advised
We are changing the application process slightly this year. We are now asking you to complete a Corporate Communications Datasheet, in lieu of an application. Upon completion, insert your photo in to your resume and send back only your resume and the single-page datasheet. We plan to now house them on our server so that we can ask only for your interest in volunteering in the future – thus foregoing the application process all over again. Please work with us as we strive to make things easier, faster and better. We have provided a sample to help with the process.
Once your application is complete, Insert PHOTO into your Resume then insert resume into the application. Save that as “first name-lastname-award07app†then email to address above.
If you have any questions about this new procedure please do not hesitate to call Donna.
