Long time side-kick for Australia's king of Pre War Blues Hat Fitz.
Ichi grew up in Bundaberg the home of the famous rum. Legend has it he and his friends when living close enough to the distillery were able to tap into one of the holding tanks And via a series of taps, pipes and tunnels secretly diverted a endless supply of this mothers milk on tap over the kitchen sink.
Jamming in tabacco drying sheds in sweltering heat he and brother Sratch formed several short lived combos from psycho punk (Susk Unts), Sabbath tribute (Black Grabbath) and straight out rock n roll (D, T and the Rhythm Brothers). These country life experiences and influences can be heard through out his music.
It wasn't till a move to the hills of the Sunshine Coast where their love for the blues was cemented, forming 4 piece acoustic blues combo Gravel Road. Ichi's love of washboard drumming florished playing a unique style of stomping blues. With the move of guitarist Irish Mark Braidner the brothers joined with Hat Fitz the wild man of the Blues and went on to forge a successful career playing the length and breadth of Australia and Ireland.
After moving in different directions and a long break Ichi and Fitz reunited and continue to tour world Wide.
Late in 2006 Ichi released his debut Cd, Fun City.It may sound like it comes from North Mississippi's hill country, but the debut solo release by nationally acclaimed blues duo Hat Fitz and Itchy's dynamic drummer Tony Eisentrager (aka Itchy or Ichi) comes from the hill country of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. Exept for Rog 'Mudbelly's harp, Ichi plays all intruments on the 50 minute CD. He uses a range of guitars from acoustic to metal body and electric.Ichi covers a range of styles from hillbilly to bluegrass as well as down-home Delta blues items likr '4 Burner Stove' with his signature washboard percussion, and the Son House inspired 'Wheels Fell Off' relating a story of life on the road. 'Bob's Blues'interprets what might have been Robert Johnson's final thoughts, holding his guitar responsible for his evil fate.Other gritty hard hitters in an RL Burnside/T Model Ford vein are 'Trouble Come' and the slow blues ' DownTown', while the easy rollin 'Years' discharges a gospel vibe. Recorded without frills on Ichi's verandah and in his lounge room using vintage mics FUN CITY mixes some meandering musical moments amid a variety of energy-charged, well contructed songs.
