Cartilago
is a solo project with some collaborations. It was born in 1985
when I discovered computer music after playing with some bands.
Darkness for me started as a lonely journey to the inside when I was a teenager, now I think of it just as the deeper side of feelings and thoughts as well as a good way to express my fascination for life an death.
About the the album: Pacto
Pacto
is the 2006 release form Cartilago.
It was recorded over a 3 year period at
Barcelona Spain and
Mexico City.
About the music
Mozart, Beethoven & Brahms...the soundtrack from my childhood thanks to my early teachings in piano. The classical influence in my music is the pillar from what I try to achieve. But some years later I lived the golden era for pop music...the 80s.
Although I love the sounds and the instruments from classical music what I find fascinating about pop is the structure, easy to learn and remember. And this is how my little experiment starts taking shape.
About the lyrics
There is so little goth music with lyrics in Spanish in this world, that it hurts!
This is for me one of the most beautiful languages. As an artist, I take as one of my duties to write lyrics in Spanish just for the sake of diversity, also there is something in the way it sounds that makes words sound poetic, ancient and deep.
This is my native language and I just feel proud of it.
The way I get the lyrics for my music is similar to the process of analyzing dreams I learned after some years practicing psychoanalysis.
I never write a single word, instead when I'm writing the music I just try to focus on my most recurring thoughts, then one good night while standing in front of the mic I just start singing whatever first comes to my mind.
After some years, this has proven to be a very effective way to be as honest as I can be in what I want to say.Lyrics in my songs are just a reminder for me of the past experiences. Within the pass of the years I've found in them a great council. Whenever I feel lost I just need to listen again & remember what I've been through and where I'm headed to.
