It was formed by brothers Jace Whitaker and Chris Philippi. Although the roots of the band extend back as far as 2003 with another band known as Two Days Later, and 2004 with Japanese Beetles, the earliest known usages of the name and style of Quinn's Penguinn are dated at mid 2006. The name is a combination of two villains names from a comicbook/television series both boys were fond of as young children.Chris and Jace wrote, rehearsed, and recorded a large collection of songs in their home using the odd mixture of mostly acoustic guitar with effects and an electric drumset. However, the band was unheard by anyone else, besides their closest friends and family until late 2007 when a friend in another band called The Main Characters suggested Jace and Chris open for them. Quinn's Penguinn even at that point hadn't been officially stated as the name of the band until just hours before the show, when they were asked what they should be anounced as.Quite a few shows later, with a growing fan base and new material being written, the band recruited long-time friend Glenn Alarcon as a bassist to fill out the sound and contribute creatively. This also marked the change of electric guitar from acoustic, making the band a traditional 3-piece.At this point the band had a solid following and were regularly performing shows. Glenn, while at a building project, met and became friends with two members of a band called Falling Upstairs who invited him to an upcoming show. Glenn and Chris both went to the show and were introduced to Hector Ruiz, the lead guitarist of Falling Upstairs. A couple months later Hector decided to quit Falling Upstairs because of creative differences and joined as lead guitarist/synthesist for Quinn's Penguinn. The bands remained friends afterwards though and performed shows together. Now with a large pool of creative influences and fans spread through-out Southern California, Quinn's Penguinn was writing new material, working on recording old material, and playing larger shows. With Hector promotional and managing skills, the band was able to play at ruputable venues such as Hogue Barmichaels and The Glass House. As a result of demand from fans, and a feeling of being tied to the older material they were playing the band decided to seriously invest the time and money to record an album. Pairing with producer/engineer Alex Hartleben, the band recorded 10 and 12 hour days in a desolate wasteland to complete an semi-conceptual album that would span the old and new songs.During the course of recording Jace informed the band that He and his Wife would be moving out of state. The band released the album entitled K.I. Pegasi (a color mentality theory developed by the band and named after a binary star system) and played their last show with their beloved drummer on November 7th, 2009.>
