Artist StatementMy art continuously aims to reproduce the world through a psychological state. The only way to do that is autobiographically: i.e. human biography-all humans. Art, as in creation, is about survival to me, therefore my style stems from a flamboyant 1986: I was born. The art has always been intimate for me.
My work is a memoir of factious identities: being both false and true simultaneously. Based on this philosophy my work as a whole deals with findings and discoveries. I work in a symbolic-expressive manner; to represent the world itself, being that it is as such (symbolic and expressive). Race, as an ingredient to identity is a major facet of my work but approached with ambiguity.
I begin a piece by covering the canvas or surface with color (very impulsive and vivid); my initial concern is to eradicate the white. These colors can be switched anywhere from five to zero times until narrative starts to take shape. It is the layers that I’m interested in the most, the fragments, the clues.
I usually work on several bodies of work concurrently to maintain the authenticity of truth. It is the impulsive, non-methodical, or calculated emotions the pieces emit that force the viewer to confront “something†beyond aesthetic. The “something†is the big question. The questions are what I’m interested in the most. I know a piece is done when its poetry is complete.
“My work is not a beginning, middle, and end. It’s a beginning or an end; sometimes a beginning and middle; and sometimes just a middle. One hundred percent reflective of reality; though it seems that way there is no chronology to Life, nor is there any in my work. There are conclusions and then there are none, but there are always clues concerning the “real†world, subconscious clues. It’s up to the viewer too: Colonel Mustard in the study with the candle stick!"Poerty-Reality-Perspective-Emily Dickinson said it best "much madness is divinest sense." My work expores that sense.http:// sableelyseart.blogspot.com....
