About Me

With her voice and her songs Simin Tander can tell stories even without words, trusting her music to do the speaking, with her voice as an universal instrument. In her unique style she melts impulsive free improvisations with delicate singer-songwriter elemens and a hint of oriental mysticism in her wa y of singing. Her own compositions, such as „Becoming “ and „Purity“ breathe depth, intensity, sophistication and astonish one with their changing moods and language. „Something embracing“, as Simin puts it, is a mark they all bear. Jazz-icon Sheila Jordan is so impressed by Simin's voice that she has taken her into training and offered her a scholarship for New York. Through many performances in diverse projects she has made herself a name in the Dutch jazz and independent improvisation scene, also in 2004 with „I Compani“ and their joint record „Fellini“. In the past years she has performed at many festivals, notably at the „North Sea Jazz Festival“ (with I Compani), the „Women in Jazz Festival/ Halle“ and the „Music Meeting/ Nijmegen“. Additionally Simin has been invited as special guest by Dutch jazz musicians like Eric Vloeimans, Jeroen Van Vliet, Harmen Fraanje and Frans Vermeerssen. In 2008 she has started her musical collaboration with film music composer/ pianist Matthias Beine, recording music for German cult thriller "Tatort", followed by the titlesong for an episode of "Der Kriminalist", which will be broadcasted on TV in spring 2009. ************************************************************ ***
