I was born in the Earth year 2222 in Tuzinor on Minbar. I was born into the family Mir. We are religious caste. My father raised me the majority of my childhood as my mother joined the Sisters of Valeria soon after I was born. My bond my father was very strong. He used to carry me on his shoulders when we would walk to temple. I remember the day that he told me he could no longer carry me that I had to walk on my own. I knew that day I would never again feel safe in my father's arms.
As is tradition with those of the religious caste, my formal education was conducted in temple. While there I studied under Draal and Rathenn. I was honored to be selected as an acolyte to the Grey Council. I began my service to the Grey Council in 2235. The Grey Council is the ruling body of Minbar. At that time it was made up of nine members...three from each caste...worker, warrier and religious.
Soon after arriving, Dukat, the leader of the Grey Council selected me to be his personal aide. My education continued with Dukat as my teacher. He was the Greatest of Us. Dukat hand selected me to take my place as a member of the Grey Council. I became a member of the Grey Council in 2245...my new title...Satai.
"Summoned, I come. In Valen's name I take the place that has been prepared for me. I am Grey. I stand between the candle and the star. We are Grey. We stand between the darkness and the light."
The same day I became a member of the Grey Council, tragedy stuck our world, a tragedy that almost lead to the extinction of an entire species...the humans. We encounted an Earth Ship, the Prometheus under Captain Jankowski. They mistook our opened gun ports as hostility. We of course, meant it as a sign of respect. They opened fire, we defended ourselves. After a brief engagement, the humans withdrew, and it left the Grey Council with a decision to make. The vote was tied and it was left up to me. I cast my vote to go to war, and to show NO mercy. I was overcome with grief over the loss of Dukat, who had died in my arms as result of the Earth attack.
I have forever regretted my impulsive decision. Dukat and the others taught me to weigh each decision carefully...I simply reacted.
We fought the humans for many years, destroying and killing everyone that we encountered. In 2248 as the Grey Council's ship participated in the final assult against the humans (the Battle of the Line is what the humans called it.) We took a prisoner for interrogation...his name was Jeffrey Sinclair. After his torture and interrogation, we examined him with a triluminary, and it glowed. The only explanation was that he had the soul of a Minbari. We brought more humans on board and discovered the same with them. The carried the souls of Minbari. The Religious Caste memebers on the Grey Council belived that Minbari souls were being reborn into humans. We knew that fewer Minbari souls were being reborn but until that moment, we did not know where they were going. We had no choice, we surrendered to the humans. We could not kill Minbari souls. This surrender did not "sit" well with neither our warrier caste nor many of the humans.
The Minbari funded the construction of Babylon 5, and demanded they had the final say in the commander. I arranged for all of the canidates to be turned down until we came to Sinclair. We of the Grey Council determined that he must be watched. We had to be sure he could not remember what occured abord our ship. Neither of our people could know about our shared souls...not yet.
I arrived on B5 in 2256 to serve as the Minbari Ambassador. I continued my studies of the humans and of Sinclair in particular. In March of 2258, a renegade soul hunter attacked and captured me, Sinclair recued me...adding to friendship that was growing. Later that month, Lennier arrived to serve at my side. In June, Draal came to visit me. While he was there he volunteered to take Varn's place as the caretaker of the Great Machine on Epsilon 3. In 2258, I was chosen as the leader of the Grey Council, but turned it down. I felt I had a destiny to help fulfill the prophecy that Humans and Minbari would work together. As a result of this decision, I was removed from the Grey Council and replaced by Neroon (of the warrior caste)...thus upsetting the balance of the Council.
I acquired one of the triluminaries from Minbar, and returned to B5 where I began to construct a chrysalis. I built this to fulfill my destiny, to bridge the differences between Human and Minbari so that we may better work together. This was the prophecy of Valen. I spent the first few weeks of 2259 in this chrysalis. After emerging I was challenged by everyone. Some people thought I was insulting the Minbari or I was insulting the Humans...it just wasn't so!
I think this is about the point where John and I felt that first spark for each other. We were old souls that had travelled many miles together. I was tested by the Inquisitor sent by the Vorlons. I proved my intentions to him and the Vorlons. John came to save me and he was also tested. Mr. Sabastian said to us as he left...
"How do you know the chosen ones? No greater love hath a man than he lay down his life for his friend. Not for millions, not for glory, not for fame... for one person. In the dark. Where no one will ever know or see. I've been in the service of the Vorlons for centuries, looking for you ... Diogenes with his lamp looking for a man willing to die for all the wrong reasons. At last, my job is finished. Yours is just beginning. When the darkness comes, know this: You are the right people, in the right place, at the right time."
He was right of course...John and I built an "Army of Light". I became Entil'zha, leader of the Rangers. John and I shared that responsibility. We fought the Shadows and won...not just for 1000 years as we had in the past, but forever. The cost of this was almost more than I could bear. John fell at Z'ha'dum...he died...Lorien was able to "breathe on the embers" and bring John back to me. I was later to find out...only for twenty more years. Later that year after defeating the Shadows, John returned to Earth and freed his home. He resigned his commission and became President of the newly formed Intersteller Alliance in 2261. We also married on the Whitestar on the way home to Babylon 5 from Earth.
As the leader of the Religious Caste, I was able to end a civil war that broke out on Minbar. This happened soon after the Shadow War. I reformed the Grey Council...this time with FIVE Worker Caste and two each from the Religious and Warrier Castes. Valen had said the Council would be broken...I fulfilled that prophecy...I believe that Valen (Sinclair) would approve of the new Grey Council. My deepest regret is losing my dear friend Neroon in the Starfire Wheel. He truly was born Warrier Caste but he followed the calling of his heart...Religous Caste. I left the spot in the center originally reserved for Valen, reserved for Neroon. I must admit it was and still is a shock that Valen actually was Jeffery Sinclair who had travelled back in time with Babylon 4.
Early in 2262 we moved to Tuzinor on the Minbari homeworld where the headquarters of the Intersteller Alliance is located.
We have since that moment had a son...David who is traing with the Anla'Shok. John and I are so proud of David. We have built the Intersteller Alliance which has wavered, cracked but held...because what is built endures and what is loved endures.
