Biography
At the beginning of the 90s Mike Mendez started listening to electronic music and soon couldn't help but had to fall into a deep and intensive relation with the new and revolutionary style of dance music. After two years of bedroom practice he took the next steps, at first debuting on intimate private partys, sooner playing gigs at established underground venues that naturally emerged into bookings in german major clubs.
Ever since he started he has been playing an important role in his local club scene, including resindencies at Essen's legendary Porn Club and Duisburg's Chism Club, as well as regular appearances on the mainfloor of Wuppertal's 1500 patrons fitting premier club Butan. As a consequence of his hectic schedule he had the chance to share the bill with some of the big players of the techno scene: Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Claude Young, Monika Kruse, etc.
In his sets Mike Mendez favours a loop orientated tool style of dance music, influenced by the well known swedish sound, with an "italian accent", as he usually likes to add. Adjusting the sound to the progress of the night, his programming stretches from laidback minimal tracks to classic pumping techno. His functional selection always tries to meet the demand of the crowd, pushing the patrons to dance end enjoy themselves.
Over the years, beside his DJ activities, he has been busy in his own studio, producing his own tracks, published on vinyl and other DJ's mix compilations, and special sound creations for commercials. At day he also works at one of Germany's oldest-established record shops, Important Records in Essen, where his long time experience helps to satisfy his customers with fresh tunes, handselected according to their favoured styles.
Mike Mendez is truly devoted to electronic music, working in all territories this industry has to offer: DJ, record dealer, producer, promoter and soon he will establish his own record label. You better watch out.
