About Me

I was there first...The birth of the Mustang: My dream car... I am best known for the Mustang 'running horse' emblem on all the Mustang's today. This design is one of 10 that I designed from 1958-1962..and the design and name stuck from then on... The emblem's can be seen on MUSTANG I and II prototype in the Henry Ford Museum also! It was a Mustang BEFORE the 1964 1/2 as it is called, that came out in April 1964. We did the Mustang to get ready for the 1964 World's fair. It was a SPECIAL PROJECT under Gene Bordinate... I worked with the Best--and even spent time with Henry Ford II--I just called him Henry! Check out Holly's On-air interview with speedsceneracing.com. The first link is the video and the second link is audio. Holly's interview begins at 16:30http://www.speedsceneracing.com/video/SpeedSceneVideo5- 1-07.wmv http://www.speedsceneracing.com/Audio/SpeedSceneAudio5-1-07. mp3I was born October 27, in Iowa and moved to Nashville Tennessee because my dad worked for the Federal Government. The Nashville move was a job change for the family and then dad went to work on the Air Base and finally to Avco ( making planes for the War. I went to Peabody Demonstration private School learned to play many instruments (even a ukulele).I later went to Hillsboro High School, where I was in many Talent shows, and won many awards. My girlfriend, Marilyn thought I was so good, that I could play in Carnegie Hall. I have been told I kinda look like Elvis Presley. I got a scholarship to Vanderbilt University where I was planning to be a Doctor, but he could not keep the hours up, though I tried... I was just too sick all the time. I also worked for AVCO with dad and he taught me aerodynamics of airplanes engineering. Dad wanted me to be an engineer like he was. But I got out of that, and turned to art and advertising. I even made some commercials...did the marketing and everything-- While working for Advertising in Sears Department Store.. That is when he bought my first car...a real classic car I loved her! I got sick again...and so while I was home I took the FRANK NICOLS FAMOUS ART COURSE through mail. Because of my love of cars, engineering and art I actually sent some of my car drawings to Chrysler and They wrote me back!!!They told me that I was good enough to go to auto school and to pick one of the best two Auto Design School, complete the course (with honors) and then come back to them. They recommended two schools: Pratt in New York or Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles Mom and dad said I couldn't go..so I sold my car to my girlfriend..and ran away from home. (I later figured I would have to marry her to get the title back on my car..since I was driving it!) I graduated....and was hired by GM and then worked some side jobs training guys about designing cars to make extra money. I also did some work for Ford. GM wasn't going to give me Credit for my work, but Ford said they would.
