Thatcher On Acid

About Me

From what I currently know, which isnt an awful lot, the band consisted of 3 members and didnt have a drummer, which to me is rather hard to recognise, apart from a couple of songs where the drum machine is obvious in a couple of segments, and are supposedly the first punk band to properly integrate voice recordings etc behind the main music. That isnt a lot I know, I hope to improve that with feedback from anybody that knows more than what i do or knows a good source where i can find information on them.Review of Curdled/Moondance on amazon.co.uk:Thatcher on Acid rode the wave of mid-eighties post-new wave anarcho punk, achieving a fuller sound (with better production than some of the equivalent bands around at the time and, lets face it, a bit of musical skill thrown in as well). Heavier than the earlier Chumbawamba sound (eg Pictures of Starving Children . . .), but motivated by the same sense of disgust at the effects of international capitalism, 'Curdled' is a raw, guitar-ridden blast of anger at the English political situation, as the band's name suggests. Songs are complex in construction and the lyrics are articulate and argumentative; listening to the album as a whole you get a sense of a coherent world view uncommon in the world of eighties punk. Definitely recommended for those who like the ideas but don't get on with the purer anarcho punk sounds of Crass or Conflict; if you like this, check out anything by The Mob, Zounds and Blyth Power, all of whom I arbitrarily connect with Thatcher on Acid. This CD comes with a free live recording (not a bad one, either) not included on the vinyl version I have.
