About Me
Javier Saume-Mazzei was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He began playing percussion at the age of eight, and as a teenager, began studying classical percussion and drumset with his uncle, Edgar Saume. Javier has performed with " Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho" Orchestra and "Ensamble Gurrufio and OGMA", "Miranda States Orchestra" in Venezuela and also played and recorded popular music:( Rigel Michelena, Petroleo Loco). He moved to Chicago in 2000 and, performed with various bands of latin jazz,Venezuelan Folk, arabic music and other styles. Saume-Mazzei graduated from Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University (Bachelor in Music), where he studied Classical Percussion with Ed Harrison, Drum set with Phil Gratteu, Paul Wertico, and hand percussion with Ruben Alvarez. Saume-Mazzei also have toured few times to Jackson Mississippi and New Orleans La, where he has performed with Rhonda Richmond "The Unbroken Circle,from Africa to Mississippi. Saume-Mazzei played next to excelent musicians like Reginald Veal, Herlin Riley and Cassandra Wilson. Nowadays, Saume-Mazzei plays with "Sones de Mexico". He played in the "Smithsonian Folk Life Festival 2006" Whashington DC, He has toured to North Carolina, Providence Rhode Island,Michigan,Philadelphia,Cleveland OH,among others.He has participated in the "Silk Road Proyect" Chicago 2007. During the summer of 2007 Javier performed in the "Harris" teather "25th Anniv of Mexican Folkloric Dance Company", at "Chicago Folk & roots Festival","Evanston Ethnic Arts Fest","Summer Dance Festival Chicago" playing with 'Sones de Mexico Ensemble"...
