About Me

Well, I used to think I knew myself. Then, one day, I logged on to myspace. Behold, a quiz for every aspect of one's personality and every fantasy imaginable.
As it turns out, I am a newborn soul from Pluto, dark, mysterious, full of magic and the secrets of the universe, 100% psychic, 56% slacker, 36% sociopath, 40% weird, 40% evil.
My monster name is Lethal Nightmare, and I feast on armadillos, lurking in public restrooms, tormenting boys who wear makeup. My exotic dancer name is Ice. My elf name is Grumpy Fluffernutter. My boobies are named Wonder Woman and Batgirl. If I was born in the 50s I would be Thelma Nadine. If I was an X-Men, I'd be Wolverine. If I was a superhero, I'd be Superman (!?). If I was a Warcraft character, I'd be a daemon. If I was a tarot card, I'd be the Magician. And if a lightsaber appeared in my hand, it would, of course, be green.

My Interests

This should say, rather Current Interests. This box will change on a regular basis like most of the others.
It's Renfaire Season!! The WCMS Faire was a huge success, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Cookeville Dragon Days Festival too, although I'm sorry I missed the Pickled Brothers' show. Hey, have I said Paolo Garbanzo is the Man? He is. What a cool guy. My other favorites: Broon, Johnny Phoenix, Hack and Slash, Zoltan the Adequate, Porter and Stout, Featherstone, Axel the Sot, and the Freelancers joust group. I have become Miss Steps the Dance Lady here locally and am working with a group at the middle school, Two Left Feet Renaissance Dance Troupe. Major fun times, even if I hurt the next day.
My critters. I have a couple of Sheltie mixes, Rascal (half shih tzu) and Dinky (half yorkie) who are brothers, and the cats that adopted me, Bella the **tch, Pixel the Brat, Magoo the Incredibly Persistent and Fidge the Drooly. Clio the Senegal parrot also calls my home hers. Currently, I have plans to start horseback riding with a lady who lives locally who has 16 (!) horses. Can't even start to tell you how excited about that I am. One of these days I will have my own equine.
Making Jewelry. I'm learning to weave chainmaille, and I took a class at Appalachian Center for Craft (what a cool place!!) to learn metalsmithing. So much to learn... maybe I'll manage to make a business of it eventually?
Guild Wars. This is an interactive fantasy environment MMORPG. Not only is it a lot of fun, but there is no monthly fee, unlike just about any other online game going. Our guild there is Priests of Eris, and we have a new Alliance, Call of Kallisti.. If you're there, look me up: Qiara Sun Li.Kingdom of Loathing. This is a turn-based game I can best describe as a stick figure MMO. It's zany and incredibly addictive, and 40 turns a day is generally not enough. I run my own clan there, The Isle of Misfit Toys, so you can look me up there, too (Character's name is Obla Dee).
As always, RPGs. We're playing Star Wars on Saturdays, where I play a Chiss Jedi.
Want to work on teaching myself Irish fiddle (I play violin and viola, but classical style). We'll see how that goes. =P

I'd like to meet:

Myself along the road.

Music:

Once I'd have said there's no music I don't like except hard rap and metal, but as I get older I'm finding there's plenty I don't like. Unfortunately, most of the music I involuntarily listen to is coming at large volumes out of my teenage son's room. I am definitely getting old.
Renaissance freak that I am, the music I love best is generally hundreds of years old. I love Renaissance music, Celtic music, and classical music. In the modern era, I tend toward jazz, some pop, occasionally R&B, occasionally country, "mood" music that is good for yoga, and that odd "modern" classical stuff: Al Jarreau, Bela Fleck, Flim & the BBs, Maroon 5, BNL, Blue Man Group, Josh Groban, Charlotte Church, Loreena McKennitt, Enigma. Eclectic, no? Sadly, I usually find myself listening to what my husband and son like unless I can't stand it :) Myspace is incredibly cool for finding undiscovered talent (by me, at least) and new sounds that I love. Check out my friends list for some really cool ones. Unless you went "eew" when you read the above :)

Movies:

The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kingdom of Heaven, Pirates of the Caribbean, Master & Commander, Big Fish, Schindler's List, Serenity, The Princess Bride, anything Monty Python, Star Wars, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Office Space, the X-men movies, Dune, Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, Gladiator, the Harry Potter movies. Most Recently Saw: Big Fish (again, with my parents, who hated it). Rating: 5. I love this movie. Ewan MacGregor is brilliant. The plot is twisted and weird and funny, and underneath it all is a deeply touching story. If you're paying attention.

Television:

Haven't got TV. I'd need cable, and we choose to spend our money on other stuff to use our TV for, like video games and Netflix, from which we often rent good TV series. I much prefer selective TV watching to plopping down on a couch and wasting hours boobified. General exceptions of the past: Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Everybody Loves Raymond, Star Trek (TNG & Enterprise, the others meh). I never watched Firefly when it was on. Now it's gone and I'm sad.
Lately Watching: Heroes.

Books:

This box is not big enough.
Novels: In general I'm a Sci Fi/Fantasy person, but I branch out occasionally. Recommend: Diana Gabaldon, Jack Whyte, Bernard Cornwell, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan (the first 4 only), Frank Herbert (the first 2 only), Timothy Zahn, Isaac Asimov, Douglas Adams, Robin Hobb, George R.R. Martin, and of course, J.R.R. Tolkien.
More serious stuff: I like historical books. Silent Spring. Roots. Bill Bryson. The Bell Jar. Occasionally delve into books on an odd variety of spiritualities.
Life changing book: The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. If you always wanted to be an artist of any kind (writing, film, sculpture, painting, drawing), or you want to get in touch with the spiritual side of you that you forgot you had, READ IT and do what it tells you to.
Poetry: Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Jack Kerouac. e.e. cummings. Walt Whitman. John Keats. T.S. Eliot. Carl Sandburg. W.B. Yeats. Sylvia Plath. Lots and lots of lesser known modern poets.
Currently Reading: Lion of Irelend, Morgan Llewellyn

Heroes:

There is a man who can make me laugh when I least expect it, who challenges the way I think about life and the world on a regular basis, who doesn't even know how sweet and beautiful it is that he will just reach out and hold my hand when he's lying beside me. And he never leaves the toilet seat up.
There is a boy who is almost a man who doesn't realize how amazing it is that he's reached teenagerhood and we're still friends, we still do things together (I dearly hope that doesn't change in the difficult years ahead). He can think for himself, and he is talented, and he seems to know what to say or do when I'm depressed. And he does a mean koraboushka.
