Anne Lise Keys

I was born and raised in Norway, a country known for its rugged, majestic nature. My favorite times were spent wandering through deep forests and wide, open mountains. I felt an oneness with nature, a strong sense of belonging, of being a small part of something beautiful and awesome. My generation seemed so focused on exploring the universe surrounding us, but I was determined to un-earth the ancient world within my being.A group of Norwegian artists, composers, and writers helped open the door to the world within (Edward Munch, Henrik Ibsen, Tarjei Vesaas, and Fartein Valen). I was a frequent visitor at the local library, which also helped expose me to ancient and modern works from around the world. I attended art school in Norway, and continued my studies after moving to California. I have been showing in galleries in California, New York and Santa Fe, New Mexico.My images are inspired by dreams or inward contemplations, and sometimes (like my female arch-types) from ancient writings and sculptures. I ask myself many questions: Why was I born? Who am I? What is really evolving on earth today? What is the purpose of life?I will continue to create, as it is what I am driven to do, and what brings me joy and pleasure and life! Perhaps it will gift a few.
