About Me

We eat pancakes to escape loneliness, yet within moments we want nothing more than our freedom from ever having so much as thought about pancakes. Nothing can prevent us, after eating pancakes, from feeling the most awful regret. After eating pancakes, our great mission in life becomes the repudiation of the pancakes and everything served along with them, the bacon and the syrup and the sausage and coffee and jellies and jams. But these things are beneath mention, compared with the pancakes themselves. It is the pancake--PANCAKES! PANCAKES!--that we never learn to respect. We promise ourselves that we will know better, next time, than to order pancakes in any size or in any amount. Never again will we be tempted by buckwheat or buttermilk or blueberry flapjacks. However, we fail to learn; and the days go by, two or three weeks pass, than a month, and we forget about pancakes and their dominion over us. Eventually, we need them. We crawl back to pancakes again and again

My Interests

Music:

Recently figured out that indie rock and folk music is so much better than modern rock, Yo! MTV Raps, etc., but in a few years my tastes will undoubtedly sway into other territories. As of now: Sufjan Stevens, Okkervil River, Jose Gonzalez, The Knife, Band of Horses, Silversun Pickups, Final Fantasy, Iron and Wine, Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, Neutral Milk Hotel, some Radiohead, John Cash is cool (enjoyed Walk the Line), Zero 7, My Morning Jacket, Interpol, She Wants Revenge, The Shins, Black Star, Sigur Ros, Stina Nordenstan, The Good The Bad and The Queen, Elliot Smith, Joy Division, a little Beck, Broken Social Scene, Bright Eyes, The White Stripes, The Kills, The Kings of Convenience, Midlake, Art Brut, The Killers, !!!, etc.

Movies:

Tarrantino is the man. All of his movies have imensely satiated my need for carnage amongst cool people (Vincent and Jules [spelling?] are the hippest guys to grace the screen since the Ninja Turtles). Aronofsky rules (to all the scenesters). If you haven't seen the Rules of Attraction and you are not out of college, go now and see it. If you have graduated already it might seem a little blase, trite. Fight Club was cool. I also liked Mean Girls.

Television:

When I'm watching TV it's usually sports (there are always various sports on at any given point in the day). If not that than 24 with Kiefer: the best drama on right now. I wish Arrested Development was still on. I watch various cartoons that are incredibly popular with people my age (and younger) and am slightly aware that I should have outgrown them. Anything with Amanda Bynes (as long as she's eighteen when the episode was shot).

Books:

Bret Easton Ellis. David Foster Wallace. John Franzen. Irvine Welshe. Dave Eggers. Nabokov. John Barth. Will Gaddis. Tom Pynchon. Nothing by Dan Brown (Loser). David Mitchell. Chuck Palahniuck. Arthur Nersesian. Dave Sedaris. Mark Z. Danielewski. Douglas Coupland. Skip over James Frey (liar, fake). Dostoyevski. Tolstoy. Beckett. Shakespear. Lawrence. Selby. James Joyce. Salinger. Orwell. Harper Lee. Capote. Machiavelli. Steinbeck. Fitzgerald. Cormac McCarthy. Ayn Rand. Albert Camus. Jane Austen. The Brontes. Nate Hawthorne. Jack Kerouac. Twain. HEMINGWAY (a must). Joey Conrad. Will T. Vollman. Fowles. Homer. Anthony Burgess. William Faulkner. Mikhail Bulgakov. Dickens. Kafka. Goethe. Proust. Didion. Baudelaire. Nietzsche. Updike. Henry/Philip Roth. Kurt Vonnegut. Oscar Wilde. Chaucer. Anything and everything you hated in high school. Seriously man, pick up some good Lit.
