Jamestown is a borough in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, located
along the Shenango River. The population was 636 at the 2000 census.The mayor of Jamestown is Esther McClimans.The town was founded by James Campbell in 1798.The borough was incorporated in 1853.The Jamestown area is served by the Jamestown Area School District.
JAMESTOWN IS KNOWN AS THE "GATEWAY TO PYMATUNING". PYMATUNING LAKE IS THE LARGEST MAN-MADE LAKE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND IS LOCATED WITHIN PYMATUNING STATE PARK--Pymatuning State Park is one of the largest state parks in Pennsylvania. The 17,088-acre Pymatuning Lake, 3/4 in Pennsylvania and 1/4 in Ohio, provides fishing and boating year round.
Formed in the 1930s by a dam on the Shenango River, the lake features multiple beaches and camping areas in both states. There are two natural areas, Clark Island (161 acres) and Blackjack (725 acres) in the park. Like all Pennsylvania state parks, admission to the Pymatuning State Park is free.
The lake is the result of an earth dam three miles north of Jamestown, Pennsylvania, whose outflow forms the Shenango River.
