About Me

..Taht-tso. Greetings. My Kiowa name is Ho-Aught-Kawn (Many Travels). I am the proud parent of 3 children, Byron, Jeana and Karlin. I am a dancer, musician and pow-wow singer. I have been a music lover since I can remember, and because of that I am self-taught on the drums, harmonica and Indian flute. I also play guitar and write music for the band I play with, Blues Nation. The Blues Nation band was formed in 1990 by Tom Mauchahty Ware. Our first shows were with Canyon, The Bellamy Brothers, Mark Chestnut, and Michael Martin Murphy's West Fest, which included the Texas Tornados with Freddy Fender and Michael Martin Murphy. We have also played with Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Matt Murphy, Rufus Thomas, Indigenous, Micki Free, Bill Miller, Walela with Rita Coolidge, Ulali, XIT, Brule, Arvel Bird, Native Roots, Clandestine, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, Irene Bedard, Bluesman Sonny Rhoades, Sir Douglas Quintet, Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers, Gordon and Jackie Bird, Kevin Locke and many, many more. In 1996 the band was invited by the Olympics committee to perform for a whole week in Atlanta, GA. In fact, we were the first artists (I think guinea pigs!) to perform after the bombing at the Olympic Village. All went well, though, and we had a great week! We have released 3 albums: Tom Ware and Blues Nation, our self-titled album, Blues Nation, which was nominated in 2003 as the Best Blues Album by the Native American Music Awards, and Blues Nation Live. I wrote about half of the Blues Nation album.I have also played with the now defunct Red Rhythm Band, which had 2 Nammy nominations, both in the year of 2004. One was for Instrumental of the Year and one for the Best Debut Album of the Year. Red Rhythm traveled quite a bit during their 2 year stint, including performing at the Nammys in Hollywood, FL. I was unable to make the gig because that is when my dear father was ill and passed shortly after that. The band and the Nammys had a short memorial spot and I heard that went over very well. I appreciate them both for that special time for my father. Now I am back with Blues Nation and we picked up where we left off, having already played so many gigs here in Oklahoma and different casinos, pow-wows and music fests around the country. Highlights are the Gathering of Nations Pow-wow Miss Indian World Competition (2007), headlining the Native American Music Fest in Yakima, WA (2006), National Museum of the American Indian, The Kennedy Center, and Al Gore's world-wide Live Earth Concerts with Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks opening for us in Washington, D.C. (2007). I am currently writing for a new Blues Nation album which we will hopefully start recording before the summer of 2008.I have just released a solo project entitled "Goin' For It." It is an all-instrumental album featuring the harmonica. I will get the CD around, so please be on the lookout for it! If you like Blues, I think you will like this CD. It features different types of Blues that will appeal to everyone.TO BE CONTINUED....
