Mastering is not an assembly line, nor is it a quick-fix solution via computer plugins. It's a dedicated task in the recording process, performed by an engineer who knows *what* to do *when*, with the right *tools* in the right *environment*. Two Thoughts about Mastering: Q) Are you a band with a recording and want your CD to stand out and get you noticed? A) Take a look at what Layback Mastering can do for your project. Q) Are you an artist/label trying to assign a budget to a release and still achieve the quality you desire from the mastering phase? A) Review rates and what people are saying about Mike Wells Mastering, or speak directly with some existing clients like John Vanderslice , Vervein , or The Junior Panthers to learn that you can get major results at indie-friendly budgets.
There is no substitute for dedicated, professional mastering. The proof is in the results. Two Thoughts about Me:
I moved to San Francisco in 1989 to pursue the music dream as a professional musician being straight out of college & music theory. As a guitarist, the California dream began with the thrash/death/grindcore scene in Wrekking Machine (Mausoleum Records) and Epidemic (Metal Blade Records), then synthesis caught my attention and I gave industrial/idm/post-industrial a good 10-year shot with a band I created called Gridlock ; my latest musical project is in the works.
In 2000, Mike Wells Mastering became a reality (originally as "5-25 Audio") and I have had the good fortune of working with many talented bands and musicians in helping them realize their sonic visions, one record at a time.
