I am here for Friends

About Me

Hi, thanks for dropping by and reading my page.
I'm Jo, otherwise known as Joski. I'm in my early 30's, live in the UK and oh, yes...I'm a mutant! I actually have a rare combination of incurable genetic connective tissue disorders that cause all the major structures in my body to be very fragile. Amongst many other things I won't bore you with, my bones break easily, my ligaments and muscles tear, my joints dislocate every day and my blood vessels/arteries rupture spontaneously too. The condition has severely affected my life, leaving me disabled, facing an uncertain future and facing endless surgeries, tests and hospital visits - but it certainly doesn't define who I am or stop me from taking on challenges and achieving new goals. I am determined to live my life to the fullest regardless of the hurdles placed in my way, because as a great friend keeps so rightly telling me, "Life is a daring adventure or nothing!"
I used to work with and train horses before I became too ill and sadly it was just too dangerous to continue. I still miss it terribly of course, but with the help, support and encouragement of some amazing people, I have taken on new adventures and challenges to keep alive and kicking! I do freelance writing on many different topics, having been published many times both online and in magazines. I have also recently been doing some PR/web based work which is a very new challenge, but one I am enjoying immensely. I especially enjoy helping to run my dear friend Geoff Sewell's website along with promoting his fabulous music! In what little spare time I get these days, I also like making cards and jewellery as well as doing some photography.
I love music, especially classical, and it's played a huge part in helping me through some of the tougher times in my journey. I particularly owe special thanks to my dear friends of Amici Forever , both past and present, for being my constant "Rehab for the Soul"!
I also adore travelling and seeing the world, always planning my next trip away whether it be here in the UK or long haul to Australia, New Zealand or the US. I was fortunate enough to spend Christmas 2006/7 exploring both islands of New Zealand, falling in love with the place and can't wait to return as soon as possible. I also adore the fabulously manic and vibrant New York City and had a wonderful time there in November 2007 with my "little sis"! My latest trip though was to Australia, where I had a truly amazing time, spending a fabulous, hectic week in Sydney, before heading up to the Great Barrier Reef - more details & pics to follow soon.
To be honest, in general I just love life and making the most of it, as much as I can, while I can. I have learned the hard way that it's far too short to sit back and just watch it go by. It may not always be what we wanted, expected or planned, but life is still the most precious gift we will ever be given - so it's down to us to make something of it and well, it'd be rude not to enjoy it now wouldn't it?! ;-)
Love and hugs.........Jo x
