About Me

Early awakening to Herman’s Hermits’ ”No Milk Today” on a vinyl single, picked up in the attic of his parents’ house, may have started it. Although it could also have been some time later, as the tones of “Avalon” (Roxy Music) came to his attention. Or the strange wonders of ABBA’s “Take A Chance”. As nothing of what he’s done since sounds much like either of them, it’s more likely to have been “Darkness On The Edge Of Town”. Either way, he bought a cheap guitar and tried to understand the ways of it. The lines “well, I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk” coming out of Springsteen’s mouth and into his ears surely struck a chord. And chords he did learn, after a while. Ringing loud and clear – no, fuzzed up and distorted that is – when the Peavy amp and the old Italian guitar came into the house (luckily that Peavy disappeared quit fast). Was fun for a while to play to Metallica-records, but nothing really seemed to move him there. So he went on to discover Dylan, Young and Waits for himself. Well, that was something else! Then it all came together so dark, dismal and nice as Leonard Cohen entered the Swanzon house. That’s when it seemed impossible for him not to start writing songs and telling the oddest, saddest, most hopeless songs. Cheerful and nice, if you’re that type of person. And so many people are. So now, he’s really trying to be a country-music artist of great statue and nice suits, but it never comes out like that. It seems the better way. ‘Cause that way Swanzon is still trying, all the time. I like the guy. Sincerely, Swanzon Sr.
