The unexamined life is not worth living.

About Me

I was born and grew up in California but moved to Corpus Christi, Texas when I was thirteen. I was a disreputable cretan through highschool but managed to graduate with a respectable degree in philosophy and religion from Hillsdale College. After graduation I married my highschool sweetheart, Lisa (a.k.a. "Long Shanks"), moved to Austin (please keep it weird), taught at Regents Classical School (snobby rich kid school) for 4 years, and had my first loin-fruit, Christian (a.k.a "The Nug"). Then I moved to Maryland and taught at Rockbridge Classical School while I studied the Great Books at St. John's College in Annapolis. During this time a second fruit, Levi (a.k.a. "The Nizzle"), was sprung from my loins. I graduated from St. John's with a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and moved back to Corpus Christi where a third blessing, Cora (a.k.a. "The Bell"), was begotten. I am currently the secondary headmaster at Annapolis Christian Academy.

My Interests

Surfing, soccer, literature, philosophy, theology, playing with my kids, dating my wife, listening to music, playing drums, writing (poetry, novels, short stories), art, films, drinking beer and fine wine, smoking cigars and pipes, watching movies, teaching.

I'd like to meet:

My Maker

Music:

All the great composers and their works (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Wagner, Handel, etc.); Hymns; Celtic/Irish folk music; rock/alternative; metal; bluegrass (not country!); I pretty much hate rap (with some minor exceptions like the Beastie Boys) and R&B.

Movies:

I hate mindless blockbusters, chick flicks, and macho man movies for guys who like movies. I tend toward indie flicks with lots of dialogue or intelligent period pieces. I also like cheap horror flicks and slapstick comedies.

Television:

Kill your tv.

Books:

I pretty much only read the Great Books (yah I know that sounds snobby). I hate mindless drivel. I like literary art -- Homer, Beowulf, Dante, Chaucer, Eliot, Dickens, Dostoesvky etc.; and I like philosophy -- mainly Plato and Nietzche (the only good philosophers who are also good writers); I like theology -- The Bible, Augustine, Aquinas, Calvin, Edwards.

Heroes:

Jesus, Augustine, C.S. Lewis, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, Lincoln, Paul, Francis of Assisi, Plato, Socrates, Homer, David, G.K. Chesterton, my father, my grandfather.
