The Vinegar Creek Constituency

About Me

The Vinegar Creek Constituency formed mostly by accident on the main stage of Lancaster's Chameleon Club. They didn't try it, folks, honestly. A promotor friend wanted an opening act for acoustic guitar samurai Larry Keel and the boys wanted to see the show and drink beer for free, so there they were: a lifelong rock'n'roll singer-songwriter, a classically trained double bassist, and some smokin' bluegrass pickers who've been at it since before their younger bandmates knew what "it" was. The group's traditional bluegrass instrumentation has proven surprisingly flexible, and the band's sound channels the venerable old ghosts of American folk tradition through imaginative, inventive original songs delivered with rock'n'roll intensity. VCC's live repertoire also includes high-voltage renditions of bluegrass standards, classic Hank and Cash-style country, and a few punk rock ditties just to make the grass purists squirm. Winners of the 2008 1st annual Delfest (as in McCoury, folks) bluegrass band competition and finalists in the 2008 Neo-traditional string band contest in Clifftop, WV, the band is spreading their music beyond the cow-speckled Lancaster County cornbelt they call home.
