Sounds Like: This mysterious four track album arrived with us almost unannounced. The artist is from Scotland and makes experimental acoustic guitar music inspired by such as John Fahey. There are four extended musical explorations here, each strangely titled such as ‘The Female Contortionist Lights A Long Black Cigarette’. Occasionally vocals emerge hazily into view, sounding fragile and distant. With the vocals they sound like Marc Bolan’s early acoustic demos such as ‘The Wizard’. There is freedom in the playing, seeming not to feel restricted by conventions. In this regard, the unconventional melodies and air of mystery remind of the solo works by members of USA female pagan ensemble ‘Spires That In The Sunset Rise’. The playing often feels rudimentary and fragmented before it seems to coalesce into coherence for a moment before dissolving once again. It’s deliberately primitive experience, working at almost a subconscious level. The album works well as an unsettling late-night experience, you seem to drift off then become alert quickly whilst listening. It certainly isn’t an album for everyone, but one that gradually reveals it’s charms. It draws you into its spider’s web slowly until they is no way out and you are fully seduced.Woven Wheat Whispers Review
