Welcome to the Global Water Foundation. The GWF helps provide clean water and sanitation to the world’s neediest communities.
The GWF was founded in 2005 by 2-time Australian singles winner and defending Wimbledon Senior Doubles champion, Johan Kriek. Joining Johan in this fight include John McEnroe, Monica Seles, Olympic swimmers Amanda Beard, Brendan Hansen, along with worldwide experts and dignitaries including former New York Mayor David Dinkins.
Water?
*An estimated 2.3 billion people worldwide don’t have access to clean water.
*Disease borne from dirty water kills one child every 15 seconds.
*It takes the average African woman 4 miles to walk for water, and when she gets there, she finds that it is unfit for drinking.
*It takes about $20.00 USD to provide a child with clean water for a year.
The GWF has been hard at work already: In October, 2006, the Global Water Foundation launched its first project in the Kamuli District of Uganda. The project ultimately will deliver clean drinking water to 5,000, immediately benefiting 1,000 schoolchildren.
RIGHT NOW: The GWF is working with Rotary International to repair a water pipeline outside Manta, Ecuador destroyed by an El Nino. Construction is ramping up. Please visit us to learn more and donate what you can!
