Ask October Skyline members Kyle Thompson (Vocals, Bass) and Jason Benjamin (Guitar) about their past history of the band and both will give you the same response, “We have come a long way for thisâ€. The band currently known as October Skyline, formed in October of 2006, started out as a small side project for former Life after Lisa member Kyle Thompson (bass, vocals). As the months went on the band found themselves taking the music more serious with song titles like Mission Statement, Curtain Call, and Crazy Girl. In January of 2007, the band released their first EP in which they said was a preview of what is yet to come. The band started off with former Life after Lisa members Kyle Thompson and Mark Schlitz (drums) joined by guitar players Jason Benjamin and Teddy Frelich. However, after months of working in the studio, drummer Mark Schlitz left the band for personal issues. Since the leave of their drummer was so unexpected the band had to quickly rebuild. The Discovery of Kevin Caampued was a great relief after working for weeks with various drummers. Kevin was the youngest member of the band and rumor had it that he was chosen for the band before they had even heard him play. During there first east coast tour in 2007 the band was interviewed for several different magazines and articles. They soon became a “talk about†band. In 2008 guitar player Teddy Frelich left the band attend school. The band then discovered Joe Playo, who had happened to walk in on the band during a sound check at one of their local shows in 2008.
Kyle Thompson - Bass, Vocals
Playing bass guitar in pop punk trio Life after Lisa, Kyle quickly adjusted his attention this new project. Kyle Thompson was born on November 19th 1988 in Philadelphia PA. By the age of 9 he quickly found a interest in playing left handed guitar. It was'nt until years later he had been able to play bass guitar. While playing bass, he, along with guitar player Jason Benjamin started a band in which they called This Above All. Music was not the only interest he had that impacted his life. While doing music Kyle had a huge interested in film and media. This later began the start of his self owned company OutCold Productions. Jason Benjamin - Guitar
Jason was born in Atlantic City on May 2, 1989. Acting and music has always been a major part of his life. Jason took guitar lessons from various teachers but he still went off to create his own style and sound. In his freshman year of high school, Jason met Kyle and they shared a similar taste in music. They went off to play several small shows through their sophomore year. Jason spent his junior year studying songwriting and music theory. "Music is a gift; for both the giver and the receiver. There is no better feeling than when you know that you wrote a song that helped someone get through a hard time or helped someone celebrate an awesome time."
Joe Playo - Guitar,Vocals
Born in Galloway Township, NJ, on August 19th 1990. Music was never prominent Joe's life until his freshman year when he received his first guitar for his 14th birthday. He quickly became bored of the acoustic guitar and got an electric for Christmas during the same year. Joe met the band at the Somers Point Firehall before one of their shows, after losing his wallet there the night before, things quickly took off from there. Although he has only been playing for four years, Joe is very versatile with his music and has progressed very quickly. Joe's influences include Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta, Jimi Hendrix, Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Matt Bellamy of Muse, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, and Thomas Erak of The Fall of Troy.
Jennifer Vilayhong - Keys, Vocals
Jennifer Vilayhong is the newest member of October Skyline in May 2008. She made it into the atmosphere of Earth on September 7th, 1990 in Vineland, NJ. Jen is better known as Oxyjen since there are endless encounters and confusions with Jen's. Her nationality is Laotion which the closest reference to it in America is King of the Hill which is not even remotely close but they tried. She has been self-taught keyboard since she was 7, and had vocal training for 12 years in school. When Jen entered high school in 2004, she was on the Oakcrest Dance Team and for all of her years in high school. In December 2007, Jen acted and danced in a hip-hop music video for a Philadelphia artists named Shai P. Jen wanted to explore an area that was new to her which was acting, preferably for film or commercials, and she was chosen to be in the movie "The Escape Artist." Jen used to be in a band called 3:29AM where she began to play drums, along with playing keyboard. Jen has currently picked up acoustic guitar and teaching herself that.
Kevin Caampued - Drums
Born in Quezon City, Philippines, on July 31, 1991, Kevin is youngest and newest band member of the group but dont underestimate him. He moved to Linwood, NJ at the age of one and has lived around music his whole life. Folllowing in the footsteps of his older brother Orland Caampued of Return To Arms, He quickly took interest in drumming. "I am NOT strictly a punk drummer," He says. Being self taught, he has created his own unique style incorporating all genres of rock. His major influences include Aaron Gilespie of Underoath, Matthew Szklarz of Ever We Fall, Tucker Rule of Thursday, Alex Rodrigues of Saosin and of course the infamous Travis Barker of +44.
