Plays guitar, dobro, slide, Taught guitar by father and consequently spent whole professional career as a musician. Played in blues and rock bands including own band No Dice who released 2 albums and had a top 50 single. Co-wrote some of their album tracks. Then progressed into more session work and World touring with acts including:
Cheetah, The Equals, Tom Robinson, Van Morrison, Terry Reid,Meatloaf, Roxette, Whitney Houston, Nik Kershaw, Box of Frogs (including Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Steve Hackett and Rory Gallagher) We Will Rock You show, and many others.
A few years ago decided to concentrate on song writing as well as playing and started looking for people to collaborate with to develop the craft.
The ‘New Country’ movement was an early influence, ‘Don’t let your love keep slipping away’ by Vince Gill being a track that personified where he wanted to aim.
Has co-written with Victoria Horn who has since had top 5 successes, Kris Wilkinson (Cicero Buck) and has a co-written song on the first Edwina Hayes album.
His main partnership had been with Phil Rynhart - they met through playing in various bands together- and began a writing team. Initially working in various styles they concentrated on a more Nashville format for a new project with singer/co-writer Barry Owen,(see turnerwest.net) Barry and Dzal continue to write together, and in other genres too.
