KUMI is a singer-songwriter, daughter of a Japanese father and Italian mother, born in Tokyo and raised up in Bonn, Mexico City,Tokyo,Paris and Milan.
Every time she moved to a different country she would live in a dimension where, at first, the words and the world around her were just sounds & visual expressions. She is now fluent in several languages and yet, wherever she goes music is her only language and her only home. she started playing the piano from an early age and over the years she mastered playing drums and singing.Kumi started her musical career in Italy in 1997 and formed a band called SUNGIFT. Between 1997 and 2004 she performed as special guest for artists such as
JEFF BECK',ANI DIFRANCO, BOB GELDOF, GARY MOORE, DEEP PURPLE, STEVE LUKATHER , LARRY CARLTON, VASCO ROSSI, JETHRO TULL, JOHN TRUDELL ..In 1998 KUMI starts to compose and write her own songs. In 2000, Kumi was invited by Kitaro(www.myspace.com/kitarojapan) to record her music in his Studio “MOCHI-HOUSE†in Colorado USA with Gary Barlough. In 2001 Kumi received the "Jury Special Prize" at "Voices of Freedom – A Song for Amnesty" and the "Best Female Singer" Prize at "Meeting of Independent Recording Companies". By 2003, Kumi started a solo career collaborating with various artists internationally. (In 2004,) She recorded 3 duets with Franco Battiato on his album “X stratagemmiâ€, Sony Music Italy and performed in the 2005 European Tour. In 2006, Kumi felt it was time for her to take a further step and moved to the UK the ultimate home of music. Since then Kumi has been writing and performing her music in the London music circuit getting herself heard and seen in venues such as Borderline,The barfly, Boogaloo,The Union Chappel,The Green Note,The Monkey chews,Buffalo Bar and lots of other pubs where she is building up her own fan base .
