About Me

Samúel Jón SamúelssonBorn in the 70´s Rased in the 80´s Does not remember the 90´sStarted playing the piano when he was 10 but quit to pick up the trumpet at age of 12. As it turned out, the music school didn´t have enough trumpets so they gave him a old cornet wich he turned in a half year later and started playing the trombone. After high school, Samuel began playing in various bands, ranging from jazz, disco and easy listening to rock and funk. In spring 2000, Samuel gratuated from FIH school of music where he also worked as a teacher for a while. This was a prosperous year for Samuel, since along with his graduation, he received the ICELANDIC MUSIC AWARDS and lead his own 17 piece big band at the REYKJAVIK JAZZ FESTIVAL.Samuel has since 1998 been one of leading members of funk unit JAGÚAR. The group has released 4 albums and toured trough Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Zwiss, UK and USA.Apart from working with Jaguar, Samuel has worked as an arranger and session man for various Icelandic artists such as Sigur Rós, Stuðmenn, Sálin, Reykjavík Big band, Trabant, Mezzoforte and Tómas R. Einarsson. His work can be found on many albums as well as films. Samuel is also a dj in café´s and bars/clubs in and around Reykjavik. Fnykur is Samuels new album feuturing his new Big Band of 18 young and funky players.

Band Members: I have put together a new Big Band with 18 members. We´re all part of a new genaration of Icelandic jazz/funk mussicians. The bandmembers include Davið Þór Jónsson - keyboards, Ómar Guðjónsson - guitar, Helgi Helgason - drums, Ingi Skúlason - bass, Óskar Guðjónsson - ten/barit sax, Haukur Gröndal - alto sax, Jóel Pálsson - ten sax, Eyjólfur Þorleifsson - ten sax, Steinar Sigurðarson - ten/barit sax, Ingimar Andersen - alt sax, Kjartan Hákonarson - trumpet, Snorri Sigurðarson - trumpet, Eiríkur Ólafsson - trumpet, Ari Bragi Kárason - trumpet, Samúel Jón Samúelsson - trombone, Kári Blís, Finnur Blís, Eyþór Kolbeins & Leibbi Jazz Blís on trombone. Fnykur is out

My new record Fnykur is in the stores in Iceland. Fnykur is an old Icelandic word for something smelly and funky. We played a packed concert at Nasa last friday.
