About Me

SANDRA GARCIA RIVERA...
"the woman you remember unbridled
in a chaotic subway crowd..."
Award winning writer and performer, Sandra Garcia Rivera has published two chapbooks of poetry - Divination of the Mistress and Shoulder High, as well as two hand-made editions of her internationally reknowned poem That Kiss (Ediciones Mixta). Her poetry has appeared in Promethean: Literary Journal of CCNY; OPEN MIC: Hostos Review Anthology of New Puerto Rican Literature; The Centro Journal; Urban Latino Magazine; RiodeSoul.com; and Manteca: Zine of La Galería de la Raza.
"Take the moment,
swallow a cloud...
Erupt
in a fountain of staccato similes...
deliver dragons’
secrets
upon the breath
of pristine pages..."
She has performed extensively as a solo artist and with a variety of musical projects across the United States, in Europe and the Caribbean. Her flavor stems from her New York City, Puerto Rican, roots and sensibilities. A flare for the erotic, jazz, bomba, the blues, palo music, as well as her daily life as a straphanger in NYC, all serve as inspiration for her writing and songs.
"I want that humid
soaked in sweat
while the sounds of waves
crash on the shore
making us misty
kiss..."
That Kiss has evolved into the interdisciplinary performance event La Feria del Beso (The Kiss Fair), celebrating creative expressions of love and sensuality, earning her the title La Musa del Beso (Muse of the Kiss).
