The Bra Show

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Our missionOur mission is two-fold, first to raise funds for breast cancer research, support programs and legislative change for health care and second, to educate the community about the disease while celebrating the beauty of life and hope through an issue that might ordinarily bring us gloom and heartbreak.

The bra art created by local and national artists for The Bra Show celebrates the lives of those living with breast cancer and those we have lost to this terrible disease.

The Bra Show events combine the artistry, commitment, humor and beauty of our celebration of the human form to conquer breast cancer.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

If you are interested in being contacted about upcoming Bra Show events and opportunities to create and show off your art work, please send email with your contact details to [email protected] - rest assured, we will not share your information with any other organization.

What we’ve done:

• In our first year, through a combination of events including exhibitions, fashion shows and an auction, we raised $75,000 that was donated to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer network in Seattle. In addition, that year we conducted shows in San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL and Louisville, KY where the funds in those communities remained in those communities providing direct health care screening and support services to low income families.

• In October 1999 we participated in a 4-day event, “Generation Us”, sponsored by Avon. This conference included a two and three dimensional art exhibit as well as hands-on multigenerational workshops for Mothers and Daughters, which discussed breast cancer prevention and self-esteem through good health. On the final day, the teenage girls modeled our art bras in a fashion show, which raised over $10,000 for health care screening in the Tri Cities.

• Funds raised by the 2000 Bra Show luncheon went to the production of a video about early detection that was broadcast to remote communities in Idaho, Washington and Alaska.

• The $40,000 in proceeds raised at the 2000 auction was used to train women in Reach for Recovery Support Groups that match breast cancer survivors with recently diagnosed patients.

• In November 2000 The Bra Show was selected by Pearl Jam as a recipient of their Vitalogy Health Fund Grant. The funds were used for to bring 220 breast cancer survivors from 6 western states to a weekend long retreat in Seattle, where they received training to start support programs for newly diagnosed patients in their own rural communities.

• In 2001 and 2002 we assisted The Blue Mountain Health Clinic in Missoula, MT, producing 4 shows and a silent auction. Their clinic was a recipient of funds from our biggest Bra Show Events to-date (approximately 2500 in attendance). Their program in conjunction with Partnership for Health have and will provide free mammogram screening in Western Montana, a state where only 60% of the population has health insurance.

• Since our inception we have distributed over 1800 hygiene and prevention care packets to homeless women as well as 22,000 pieces of prevention literature to women and men across the Puget Sound region.

• The Bra Show has been featured locally on numerous radio and television shows including Northwest Afternoon, Evening Magazine, Q13 Morning News and People Helpers.

• National and International media broadcasts have included CBS Radio Sunday Morning, Canadian Broadcasting’s “Art on The Move”; WPAR “The Party”, Omaha, NB; CNN (both television and on-line broadcasting) RCL Television Germany (Europe’s largest broadcasting station) and Radio St. Thomas, the Caribbean.

• Publications have included USA Today, Seattle Times, Seattle PI, The Missoulian, Fast Company Magazine, Seattle Homes & Lifestyles and most recently The National Examiner (although we continue to aspire for the National Enquirer & The Star).

• Jones Soda recently chose one of our bra photographs as the featured label art for their Strawberry Crème Soda – five cents from each bottle will be donated to breast cancer research.
