About Matt Williams

Matt Williams is a singer, songwriter and guitarist in pursuit of that elusive beast, the great song. "A great song," he says, "has an intangible magic at its core, making it great even in the most simple performance ... so that's how I try to write my songs – from the inside out."

The results (great or not) have found their way onto a number of radio stations in Australia and the UK, and have earned Matt the praise of many industry professionals, who have compared him to acts such as U2, Oasis and Jeff Buckley. Matt himself refers to influences like Pink Floyd, U2, REM, Radiohead, Chris Cornell, John Frusciante ... The truth may be that he sounds a little like all of them, and a lot like none of them – both comfortingly familiar and excitingly original. Matt describes his distinct sound as "moody, melodic, laid-back rock, typically both melancholy and uplifting".

Except that 'Without' ( listen ) and 'I'm Coming Down' were professionally mixed, Matt single-handedly writes, performs, programs and produces all of his recordings.
