What is style? Its the element that sets one artist apart from another. Its how you wear your clothes. Its how you speak your words. Its how you sing. Its how you feel. Its who you are.
What are you?
These are some of the questions - These are some of the answers.
In an attempt to showcase the many and varried talents of the Twin Cites - I, phingaz, decided to take a shot in the dark and make a Mix Tape like no other. A project in which all the artists involved start @ the same place and its up to them as artists to take things into new areas to set themselves apart from the rest.What am I talking about?
The Premise:
A mix CD featuring any number of MC's on one Solo track a peice.
The Catch:
I created 6 beats, The beats are ALL related:
1. All in the Same key.
2. All using very similar chord progression, (with slightly different melodies and harmonies).
3. Varry in tempo, feel and style.
4. Each beat contains parts of previous beats - Just 're-invented'/re-sampled.
I then called on Egypto Knuckles, Katrah-Quey, Hater Dave, and Vivid to take the sounds I used to create my beats and make their own beats from them.
The Goal:
To showcase different MC's, spinning different songs, about different things, depending on their interpritation of the beat they choose. SO, ex: we could have 4 different versions of one 'song' depending on where each MC takes it. The idea is kinda like "If we all start on a similar canvas, how much change can occur with personal spin/creativity"

Which is exactly what I atempted to do - I called out to the Twin Cities with my idea and this is what I got back. I didn't play favorites - Those who got material into me - got put on the tape. I hope you enjoy.-phingaz
