1st Degree is a local rap phenomenon that has been taking the Upstate by storm. The Group was originated from the minds of Josh Gardler (a.k.a Chubb) and Clay Duckett (a.k.a phenom) in the never-changing streets of Buffalo, S.C. The duo started off as a freestyle battling army whos mission was to annihilate any MC in their paths,...and that's just what they did. After meeting up with actor/producer Cody Newton, they decided it was time to take it to a whole new level. Studio time was given, by other local rappers and what has came to be known as "You don't want war" was recorded in the basement of an apartment building in Downtown Union. The track featured verses from Josh Gardler and Cody Newton and was a sucess on the streets of Buffalo. A week later a second song was recorded in the same studio entitled "This ain't no games" featuring verses from Josh Gardler , Clay Duckett, and Cody Newton, and was later deemed "The Anthem" of 1st Degree. By then, 1st Degree had been bitten by the studio bug. It was no longer street battling for respect anymore. Mixers, mics and other recording equiptment was purchased and 1st degree constructed their own studio in an obscure part of Buffalo, so their creative arsenal could be mastered. With the addition of Cody Newton to the 1st Degree family , he also brought along with him, the sounds of Lee Scales, Dre of U.G.E (Underground Entertainment) and "Murda Rob" to make the package complete. In the summer of 2005 1st Degree's debut album "Keep it in the Low" was completed and hit the streets, including featured tracks such as "B-Town Stomp","Murder in the 1st Degree", and a "This ain't no games-Remix". After the release of "Keep it in the Low" 1st Degree obtained a wide fan following all across the Upstate of S.C. and the rest was history.
