Synnøve S. Bjørset was born 1979 in Jølster in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, and is one of the finest interpreters and musical narrators of the hardangerfiddle music.
Bjørset works as a freelance, and in addition to extensive touring as a soloist and member of such acclaimed bands as Majorstuen, she works as a projectmanager and producer.
Bjørset focuses on creating music that is simple and authentic, but also powerful, expressive and innovative. In her playing she emphasizes the rythmic and melodic subtitles of hardangerfiddle music, and she aims at conveying this special groove to the listener.
Bjørset has studied at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, and drawn inspiration from some of the best-known and most outstanding fiddlers in the country, such as Håkon Høgemo. By working with and specialising in historical archive recordings, she has developed a distinctive repertoire based on a minimalistic melodic material.
