i am clare. i like to put words together to make sentences, and sentences together to make paragraphs, and paragraphs together to make stories. sometimes i shift my weight so that i occupy a different space in the universe than i did previously. i have a dog named oliver and his heart looks like this: a brightly colored ragamuffin's quilt held together by big buttons and thick stitches. i can generally be found working, eating, sleeping, reading, or laughing. all of this is made possible by andrew, who is my husband. he is far more than super in every aspect, like a glow-worm, but even better. it is my hope that everybody in this world can find somebody who makes them as happy as andrew makes me. the family i've made is what's behind whatever smile happens upon my face. they are a ray of sunshine, bent into a circle, wrapped around my waist, thrashing me around this life like a wild lasso, so that i become intoxicated/giddy, but also i can reach down and feel reassured because i'm anchored by this lasso, which by the way is made of sunshine. wouldn't you love to be me?

My Interests

halloween, books, magazines, birthdays, not going the same place twice, the terrifying allure of underwater, winged people, elves, streudel, taking pictures of neat stuff, words that shape things and things that shape words, pandas, seahorses, hummingbirds, jellyfish, doogs, miniature horses, caterpillars, neuroptera, moons, polka dots, stripes, heart-shaped pumpkins, and: (zonies.)

L O V E L Y D A Y (i've also been known to endorse the early work of one A. Morissette, perhaps even declaring her 'the best musician ever.')

Movies:

thanks to andrew, i've developed an affinity for films whose titles hover precisely between eight and nine.

Books:

"juicemaking for juicemakers: a guide" and Oliver's dissertation, aka linguistic analysis of 1950s parisian noodle-boiling instructions, a fascinating probe into the texture of post-post-WWII european colloquialisms.
