JOIN (RED).comI am a Native Lady who has all kinds goals and dreams yet to be experienced. I am first and foremost a Mother. My kids are by far my biggest accomplishment, challenge and source of happiness. I was a single parent and it was hard times, but outta those hard times comes a very tight knit family and an even stronger will to make something of ourselves. My son Jeremy known to most as "Eyerock" is an artist living his dream in San Francisco,CA. He is a college graduate. His talent has taken him all over the world and blessed him with some pretty amazing experiences. As a boy I always told him, "Son, you can go wherever you want nothing can stop you,but you..." Check out his stuff @myspace/rezrocketdesign.com or jeremyarviso.com.
And,Jessica is my girl, Jesie Jess is a beautiful lady. She lives and works here in the valley. She's the girl on the scene. My girl has done some extensive traveling and does some freelance modeling and fashion shows. She is in marketing and knows her stuff...
It is hard when you have to be both parents, but, it can be done. As a product of an orphanage, I know what it means to not have your parent and it sucks!!! So, be there for your kids, you will reap beautiful memories and have so much to look foward to, it is worth it!!
I am also a married woman, I have a great partner in Chuck Harris. I met him at a gig almost 11 years ago. His band Clan/Destine was playing a Native nights show @ a club called "The Melody Lounge". I was to meet some friends there, they never showed up... but, Chuck rocked the house with his bandmates and I was totally blown away!!! I was quite brazen and walked up to him and asked for his number!! Yup! Sometimes you have to take matters in your own hands, the rest as they say is history. We have been together ever since!!!And, I am still checking out the show!Ha! He has a hella encore...He is still playing music with Clan/Destine. Looking to have new cd out soon. You can check them out on www.myspace/clandestine.com.
I also have a set of twin step-daughters, Heather and Magan. They are both attending college for nursing careers! Pretty ladies and smart too boot. We are proud of our young'uns and support them in their lives. Family is such and awesome blessing, dont'cha think?
Well, I returned to school, after dropping out in the 10th grae, eons ago. Shoot, I had not seen the inside of a classroom for a good twenty years or so. But, I am back...working on a communications degree. The math is a real pain in the ass! Who the hell decided to mix the letters with the numbers anywase?!! But, still I plod on. I am scheduled to graduate from Mesa Community and then on to ASU, eventually. I have great respect for those who are student's and work and take care of their families, it is not an easy road. I'm told it will be worth it in the end. We'll see....
On a more personal note, I am "survivor" of the Mission school experience many of our Native people's endured. I have so many harrowing memories of that childhood experience. My sister's and I lived at Navajo Missions Incorporated in Farmington,NM. I am still trying to overcome so much that happened there. I am in the process of writing a book about the time we spent in the care of these, "Christian missionaries". I am still looking for some of my fellow "inmates" to see if they made it out in one piece. One of my "brother's" at the mission was Clayton Lonetree. It is not okay that they abused us in every way imaginable and got away with it. We are walking around with terrible guilt and self-hatered because of the things that were done to us. I have titled my piece,"The Missionary Position". If you know of anybody who has a similar story please feel free to send them my site. I would like to start some sort of healing for me and my sister's, and those who would like to start making these memories a thing of the past. I have never spoken of these things out of shame. But...why should I be ashamed? It was I who was abused. I know I am not the only looking for a way to deal with these sores of the past. If you know Clayton or his brother Craig and their sister Valarie,Please pass this on. I don't know that this will help, but I am done being quiet about it...
So...I have big plans for me and my family. One day I will have a cooperative based on our peoples art, traditions and culture. I will invite well-known artisians from all generes to participate in teaching our youth about who they are. Giving back to the community is something I always hear about. Let's see if they will join the fight to make our communities stronger and more vibrant. Who's up to the challenge? We shall see...Peace.
