About Me

In between getting on with life, I've been writing songs for over twenty years. It's been quite a journey through styles and influences, but recently the songs seem to have become more focussed around acoustic guitar and traditional narrative forms. I love trying to keep things as simple as possible, and do my best to draw all the motifs and melodies which move me into something compact and straightforward.I am gradually replacing my original MySpace demos with something more technically adept - thanks to the production skills of Simon Metheringham and his 16-track, and the maverick stylings of other musical friends. I love playing live and whenever I have something planned I'll make sure it is advertised on here.

Rehearsing... In My Head

When I was about 13 I worked out the riff to 'Money (That's What I Want)' in my head by picturing the intervals on a keyboard. After that, I learned all the keyboard intervals in my head and eventuall...

The Time - 28th April. The Place - The Green Dragon, Croydon

There's one thing about an impending gig. It always gets me thinking: 1: Why am I still doing this at nearly 35 years of age? I'm nobody... what's the point?2: Why the hell not? Thurston Moore just tu...

Me, Myself and Father of Mine

So this song has been on my case since I dreamed it up about three years ago. I've played it live but never really known what to do with it in terms of arrangement. Simon Metheringham and I had a go a...

Matchbox drums

Fall In Love again

So to whoever has been playing Fall In Love quite so much, many thanks. I wasn't happy with the original vocal so I have found some of my old guitar pedals and added compression and reverb to try to b...

Stumbling Forward

I've been about as close as you can get to writer's block this last three months. Instead I've spent my time experimenting with sounds and ambience rather than writing the kind of songs I know I reall...
