Hello, I’m Merissa. But I’ll also answer to Squid, Missy, Miss, Merissa Jayne, Cephalopod, Snoopy, or even just hey you. But typically it’s Merissa at school or work, Missy with friends, Squid with close friends and family, and recently my boyfriend started calling me Snoopy. Like the dog. I don’t know why, he still won’t tell me. I missed the reference.
Anyway, I’m a loud-mouthed metal workin’ girl with a whole lot of love to give to the world. I took some time off of school awhile ago to figure out what I want to do with my life and I then came to the conclusion that I want to put these art skillzz to work. So I’m going to school for welding technology with the intentions of transferring to a four-year university to complete a metal sculpture program as soon as I’m done with my associates degree at Clackamas Community College. I don’t ever want to be one of those people who talked about what they used to do and how cool it was, you know?
I grew up in Utah.
I love video games, flaming hot cheetos, watching the sky, and the number five. I don’t know where that came from but ever since I was little I’ve always been drawn to it and good things typically happen in 5’s for me. I always wish on 5:55am or pm, depending on which one I notice and I’m always pleased with my day if I wish on both. Although it was totally weird watching Where the Heart Is because Natalie Portman totally hates the number five in that movie and shitty things always happen to her because of it. But maybe that’s just because she had a baby in Wal-Mart. Who does that, really?
I hate being cold.
Video games have always been a favorite of mine. My boyfriend is constantly jealous of my 5ft tall cardboard Link (from the Twilight Princess) my friend Jared gave to me from when he was working at Game Crazy because Link is my first love/husband. Sorry baby. I also have a set of Bloopers (the squids from Mario) tattooed down my forearm. Some allow that to bring them to the conclusion that I am in fact a nerd. You decide.
Life, I recently came to realize, is actually pretty hard. But I still think it’s fun and I feel like people need to take a break and enjoy it more often than they do. Stop your busy routine and just take a look at the sky, go out with some friends, or just stay at home and watch a movie with a loved one. Whatever you need to do to get yourself unwound, do it. I think people are way too serious sometimes and before they know it, it’s all going to be over. I don’t want to miss out on anything.
Overall, really, I’m just an awkward sort of girl trying to “make it†in the real world. But who knows what that means.
