Jess Childs has been singing since she was a little girl, surrounded by music in the Mid Wales farmhouse she grew up in. Introduced to guitar and piano by their mother, Jess and her two brothers were all keen musicians and artists throughout their early years. Jess wrote her first song 'Alright' when she was fourteen, in a music lesson at school, and performed it in a concert the same day. Since then she has received good reception for her writing and performances, appearing with only her guitar for support at various venues in and around her native Mid Wales, and further afield in South Wales and Herefordshire. She has featured in the Brecon Fringe Festival line-up during Brecon Jazz Festival for some years, performing in the grounds of Brecon Cathedral and the 'A Frame' art gallery, and also supported country singer and Radio 2's Bob Harris favourite Angie Palmer during her UK tour at Brecon's Theatr Brycheiniog. Jess has also appeared at The Workhouse Festival in Llanfyllin, Hay-on-Wye's Literary's Fringe Festival, at Abersytwyth Arts Centre’s MidMad Festival and acoustic platform. 2009 will see her and guitarist Julian Lewis record new material and carry on gigging at venues across Wales and the Midlands, including Hereford’s The Black Lion as a guest of local favourite Lou Richardson and NRG Bar in Neath. She also has a regular slot at The Felin Fach Griffin, a Good Food Guide favourite near Brecon. Email [email protected] for more info or to book a gig
