MARNIE DEAN

> Hello, I am Marnie, I am an intense and passionate creative being. I am a visual artist and Healer who has spent the past few years in California and a stint in India, working on various projects. I have come home to Australia and am now living in Briz Vegas! My name "MARNIE" kind of sums me up, it means "to rejoice", I think of this as juicy joy and try to always have a positive attitude about life! My art practice utilises the use of my little avatar called DOLLYGRRRRL who gets placed in specific mythologies and rewrites these scenarios via a sometimes comical, sometimes subversive understanding of semiotics and popular digital culture.As a visual artist I have recently written a little book called The Energy of the Goddess and illustrated the 2009 Gifts of the Goddess Calendar for the incredible Di Seekers, benefactor and an extraordinary woman. My most recent project has been several installations (permanent acquisitions)for the department of Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Queensland. In Los Angeles I worked as a new media artist manipulating imagery for specific political candidates and filtered those images back into popular culture for endorsements, I thoroughly enjoyed being exposed to this political environment and am always suprised by the power that art has to impact on people's conscience.I believe in putting my heart and soul into everything I do, and I love engaging and collaborating with people who can meet me in this. It is my intention in my life to be real, grounded, to be as authentic as possible, to question things I don't understand, to learn, to represent the sacred feminine, to embrace all types of cultures and knowledge, to travel, and give myself over to pleasure wherever possible. I always take the risk of being authentic because I believe that that is how connection in creative endeavours becomes successful. I do this because I get to know myself through the experience of communicating with other people in my life, and I love understanding what makes them tick as well. It's about the journey and the people you meet, that makes life rich, successful and exciting.
