I am here for Friends

About Me

My name is Jan, but I am called "Jean" by most of my friends. On the internet I often use the (nick)name "J-kwadraat", stemming from the Dutch pronunciation of J² (the mathematical representation of my initials JJ). Everything I want to share about myself can be found on this MySpace-page ...

If you're interested in our little animal farm (consisting of Bernese Mountain Dogs and cats), check out my personal website (in Dutch but with lots of pictures).

Have fun clicking and reading ...

My Interests

- My fiancée and soulmate Nancy (my only and true love since 1995)

- Our pets
* Our Bernese Mountain Dogs Zyca ,

Luna

and Ygor (†)

* Our cats Ayla ,

Deco

and Volkan

- Standard de Liège (and soccer in general)
- Politics
- Informatics
- ...

I'd like to meet:

Friends that I also know in "real life" (not only through the internet) and people with similar interests (Standard de Liège/soccer, politics, music, pets, ...)

You have been marked on my profile map! Click to zoom-in.

My Pictures
They often say that a picture says more than a thousand words. Here are some images that I like for one or another reason.

Note: refresh this page (F5 or CTRL-F5) or go to my Pics-section if this slideshow doesn't start scrolling (and you want to see my pictures ;-).

Standard de Liège/Soccer

I am a fanatic supporter of Standard de Liège for more than 20 years now. Every two weeks I go to our homeground Sclessin. During the match you can find me in bloc D3 (with some other "Old-Firmers"), and before and after the game we hang out at "La (new) Cosa".

MySpace group for Standard fanatics

Other soccer teams I like are
- FC Den Bosch (The Netherlands - Their supporters visit the Standard games and vice versa since 1987. Recently, I started visiting some of their home games again. Heya Den Bosch!)

- Celtic Glasgow (Schotland - In 1991 I went to see their UEFA-cup game in and against Germinal Ekeren and in 2003 I was at Celtic Park for a friendly game against f*cking Arsenal. On both occasions, I was really impressed by the atmosphere.)
- Fluminense (Brazil - I was lucky to meet one of their supporters who took me to a home game in Maracanã in 1999. Unforgettable!)

The team I hate the most is Ander$lecht. Check out Mauve Willems for an illustration of what too much contact with these "mauves" can do to you(r home). Also Bruges, Genk and Arsenal (some of you know why!) are not particularly appreciated ...

As (fanatic) Standard-supporters, we are strongly opposed to the presence of racism/fascism in (and outside) football stadiums. Therefore, I feel sympathy for (m)any group(s) of supporters fighting the same battle!

Politics
Although I do not really like the word, you can consider me as a "leftie". I fully agree with the basic principles of the Socialist International, being FREEDOM, JUSTICE, EQUALITY and SOLIDARITY.

As such, I'll keep on "fighting" for a peaceful world based on these principles, despite the historical failures to this regard and the increasing egoïsm, intolerance, racism, exploitation, ... in our current society. This may sound naive, but I prefer to be a naive believer than a selfish asshole! We can change the world, as long as we all want to. The real revolution is the personal revolution!

Music:

All kinds of music, including hardcore, oi!, metal, punk, (alternative) rock, hip-hop, ska, reggae, ...

Movies:

I am not a movie-addict at all. Yet, I can enjoy a good film occasionally, as long it's not fantasy or science-fiction stuff. Among my favorites: A Clockwork Orange, Good Fellas, Seven, The Godfather(s), Trainspotting, ...

Television:

Depends on the offer and my (limited) amount of free time (left). I focus on news, current affairs/political programs and sports (mainly soccer), but I also appreciate other stuff (documentaries, humour, series, quizzes, music, ...) once in a while.

Books:

My appetite for reading disappeared by struggling through the obligatory literature at school. Nowadays, I stick to computer literature (for my job) and my weekly P-Magazine and Sport/Voetbal Magazine.
